Leica Mayfair Recruiting

Interesting that they want applicants to send a photograph. Couldn't they just have said "Ugly people need not apply"?

Reading the ad again they just want applicants to send 'a recent photograph'. I think I've got one somewhere of the neighbour's cat.

Add 'proven experience with total M8 dis-assembly' to your CV, least you forget.

It's interesting that they show an S2 being disassembled (or "messed with" in Bruton Place speak) when they don't actually do that kind of thing there. I see Bruton Place as more like a kind of drop-off point for sending things off to Solms, though there's an attitude problem which I don't encounter at my local Post Office.

As for 50mm Summilux faults, the mount is really problematic on this lens - it was one of the first (maybe the first?) to have close focus correction which introduces additional complexity and I'm one of those who wish the lens was slightly larger in diameter which might have made the mechanical design easier.

My black copy has been back twice to have the mount rebuilt and it still doesn't focus properly; my chrome copy first had excess paint around the front ring (derision was heaped on me when I showed it here) and it focussed well until the focussing ring decided to detach itself from the back of the lens.

I remember that. Derision heaped on Leica though for the sloppy QC not you!

I have just been looking at a page on the Mayfair store web site.

If you book a complimentary course on say the M9 they want a photo.

Perhaps it will soon be a case of "ugly people not being allowed to buy an M9 next"

Brian :D

The new recruiting is for the new building.

As I understand they will be undertaking a wider range of service with the unit across the road from the Bruton Street store. They will also be offering a hire service of the cameras too, particularly the S2.

No other Pro Hire companies in London have taken the Leica's on and it is a key leverage point in pros, or anyone for that matter, buying into new systems.

I think many companies when recruiting ask for a photograph. When final selections have to be made a photograph allows the interviewer to recall impressions etc. made during the interview. It's part of human nature.

It's also a great way of identifying and excluding candidates from visible minority groups without giving them a chance. Is it legal in the UK or US?
