vladik Posted March 19, 2012 Share #1 Posted March 19, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Dear members, does any one of you have any experience using Novoflex Leica M to Nikon lens adapter? I have 3 nice Leica M lenses, but would like to use my Nikkor AI-S 2.8/135 on my M9 and on Ricoh GXR Mount A12. As I do not use longer lenses on my M9 very often above combination seems to be a most economical solution for the occasions when longer lens would be needed. Also any experience with cheaper brands of adapter’s comments would be appreciated. Thank you in advance. Vladik.

farnz Posted March 20, 2012 Share #2 Posted March 20, 2012 Vladik, I don't know of such an adaptor but even if one was available it wouldn't be rangefinder coupled so you could only use zone focussing. Pete.
doubice Posted March 20, 2012 Share #3 Posted March 20, 2012 Vladik, It will be impossible to focus your Nikon lens on the M9 and due to its very limited depth of field, you will be limited to long-distance (read at infinity) photos only. The Novoflex Nikon to M mount adapters are not cheap and my recommendation would be to buy a 135mm lens that is rangefinder coupled. They are not expensive - Canon 135mm RF lenses (Thread to M mount adapter will be needed) will range from US$100 to US$200, Leica Thread Mount or M mount Hektor should not be more that US$300. Best choice in terms of money spent versus image quality would be a Leica Tele-Elmar-M 4/135mm - those can be had for US$300 to US$400. It is a compact and light lens, with superb quality. jibanes Posted March 20, 2012 Share #4 Posted March 20, 2012 I own one, I have to admit it's pretty much useless.
k-hawinkler Posted March 21, 2012 Share #5 Posted March 21, 2012 I own one, I have to admit it's pretty much useless. Adapters work great for wide angle and fisheye lenses though. http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m9-forum/117766-panorama-warning-image-files.html
darylgo Posted March 21, 2012 Share #6 Posted March 21, 2012 Novoflex adapters are quite expensive, for a few dollars more consider buying an older 135mm f4 Tele-Elmar, around $400 on ebay. This has to be the best bargain in Leica lenses today, and it is exceptionally sharp. Focus on the M9 is better with magnification.
billib Posted March 21, 2012 Share #7 Posted March 21, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) I had bought an inexpensive AIs to M mount adapter and had problems with it, a Nonolfex worked great. Do understand the rangefinder isn't coupled to the lens. Focus is by guesstimation. The adapter is pretty much useless except on very wide angle lenses. With wide angle lenses you'll also have ray angle to worry about. bill Posted March 21, 2012 Share #8 Posted March 21, 2012 I'm a bit confused by your post... Do you want to mount Nikon lenses on an M-mount body? If so I do that with the Novovlex Lem/Nik adaptor bought from SRB Griturn. It is more expensive than the rubbish you can get on eBay but, unlike the examples I tried from there, holds the lens firmly and without drooping I use it to mount Nikon and my Leica R lenses converted to Nikon on my Ricoh GXR. No issues with focussing of course although I agree that it would be guesswork on any other M mount body. Regards, Bill
billib Posted March 21, 2012 Share #9 Posted March 21, 2012 Yes, I use a Novoflex adapter to mount Nikon AIs lenses to my M9-P body. I use it just to mount my 8mm Nikkor and my 20mm Nikkor. If Leica EVER sells me a 21mm f/3.4 then their would be no need for the Novoflex. My "back-up" APS-c camera body is a Samsung NX100 with the lens mount on the body changed to an "M" mount. So their is no need for an adapter.
Prosophos Posted March 21, 2012 Share #10 Posted March 21, 2012 Agree with the impracticality of the set-up mentioned by the other posters. However, it's not impossible to use. Here is a test shot... the Nikkor Noct 58/1.2 is mounted on the M9 and shot @ f/1.2, via the Novoflex: Peter. P r o s o p h o s Welcome, dear visitor! Aivar Posted January 5, 2014 Share #11 Posted January 5, 2014 hey guys! what do you think about Leica M240 connected through the Novoflex adaptor to Voigtländer Apo-Lanthar 125mm f/2.5 AiS mount F? will this works good? that will be a longest tele and macro for me. jibanes Posted January 5, 2014 Share #12 Posted January 5, 2014 If you want to do good macro work, don't use a rangefinder, especially not a M240, you will get some results passably good for flickr, but those will just make a real photographer chuckle. Of course, if you like to take closeups of bananas, leica would be happy to sell you $20k worth of gear.
jaapv Posted January 5, 2014 Share #13 Posted January 5, 2014 On the M240 one would not be using the rangefinder, but the EVF…. Even with the old Visoflex on the M8/9 results were superb, the 240 will do no less… I guess I am not a real photographer….

Of course, if you like to take closeups of bananas, leica would be happy to sell you $20k worth of gear. Can´t agree with you, sorry. Close-up and macro was and is possible with the Leica M cameras, including M8 & M9, via Visoflex and bellows. For instance, I did digitize hundreds of 4x5 negatives with a M9 and a Visoflex III + Elmar 65 with zero difficulty. The quality an M9 + Leica lens can give is of the highest standard. After doing quite abrupt close-up and even macro shots as a professional with a 4x5 bellows camera during decades, working with M9 + Visoflex is very very easy. :-) Cost in 2011 of the Visoflex III + Elmar 65 = 550 euros Now with the M240 it is even easier. Two top of the top R macro lenses (65 and 100) can be used.

That lens will devour the M9 but yes it will yield good results . You will only want to use it with a tripod or something. I have the little brother 180 APO and it's annoying to use handheld.
