GavinM Posted March 18, 2012 Share #1 Posted March 18, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Dear moderators Please take this in spirit intended but, would it not be possible to segment / divide this forum between questions which concern technical matters and the others (e.g. my hot show does not match my pink alligator skin cover, please help). Whilst amusing they really do not help most us I fancy. Thank you in advance for your kind consideration.
Advertisement Posted March 18, 2012 Posted March 18, 2012 Hi GavinM, Take a look here Segmenting the forum. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
andybarton Posted March 18, 2012 Share #2 Posted March 18, 2012 To some, those ARE technical questions The Forum is already split into multiple sub-forums and Moderators spend a lot of time keeping it "tidy".

GavinM Posted March 18, 2012 Author Share #4 Posted March 18, 2012 This was not intended in any way as a snipe at the moderators, just that many posts seem to be concerned with somewhat trivial matters of "pimping" and not at the heart of matters photographic. No offence intended.
andybarton Posted March 18, 2012 Share #5 Posted March 18, 2012 Well, I stand corrected... No need to be like that... The more sub-sections there are, the more confusing it gets for everyone and the more difficult it gets to choose which sub-section to post a thread into. GavinM Posted March 18, 2012 Author Share #6 Posted March 18, 2012 With all respect Andy (and that is intended most sincerely indeed), I think that just maybe you are missing my point. This forum is extremely good and in no small way thanks to people like you but, I imagine that I am perhaps not alone in wishing to avoid posts about matters concerning the physical appearance / colour coordination of my hardware. No offence intended. That's what the Technical sub-forum is all about, really. Just ignore the threads about stuff that you're not interested in. Further, who would decide what is a technical thread and what is just "pimping"? If you want to discuss photographs, try the Photo sub-forum.

bill Posted March 18, 2012 Share #10 Posted March 18, 2012 Seems to me if you want humourless moderation and thousands of sub-fora, RFF's the place, otherwise use your own internal filtration Regards, Bill
GavinM Posted March 18, 2012 Author Share #11 Posted March 18, 2012 I really was trying to be constructive, I cannot believe that I am the only forum user (with limited time to use) who finds some of the topics not so educational. I fully understand that to some users the physical appearance of their equipment is part of the pleasure of ownership but, to make the the forum more customer focused / friendly why not segment it?. I feel that I am flogging a dead horse (unless other forum users share the view ?), so do accept at least my thanks for replying.
andybarton Posted March 18, 2012 Share #12 Posted March 18, 2012 The forum would be LESS focussed if there were multiple places to look for what are in effect very similar types of thread. As I said, one man's "pimping" is another man's grip or Thumbie.

You are certainly not the only forum member who thinks that the whole notion of pimping Leicas is absurd, and reading about it a dispiriting waste of time. So I ignore those threads without any difficulty. I find this is a well-organised forum, that makes it very easy to find the things I'm interested in and pass over the ones I'm not. Further sub-divisions would probably end up confusing me!
likalar Posted March 18, 2012 Share #17 Posted March 18, 2012 Gavin, I think this thread was originally in the M9 forum, correct? I just looked into that forum, and of the top 25 threads, none seem to be the type of threads you are annoyed about. When an annoying subject appears, most likely the title gives a clue, and it's easy enough not to open it. Seems like a non-issue to me. Respectfully, Larry
