chrispatel Posted March 9, 2012 Share #1 Posted March 9, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am thinking of pairing up my new 40 mm CV lens with the 28 Ultron 2.0 on my M8 Can anyone confirm the framelines that will be pulled up as well as if it is possible to code an if it is necessary with my M8 Thanks! Chris:)
Advertisement Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Hi chrispatel, Take a look here Voigtlander 28mm Question on framelines. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
ho_co Posted March 9, 2012 Share #2 Posted March 9, 2012 I haven't worked with the CV 28 and can't vouch for the frame lines, but wouldn't it call up the 28 frame lines? Your dealer could verify that assumption. With M8 and UV/IR-Cut filter, a 28mm definitely needs coding.
aleckc Posted March 9, 2012 Share #3 Posted March 9, 2012 Yes, I have one on my m8. It does bring up the 28mm frame lines
Photomek Posted March 9, 2012 Share #4 Posted March 9, 2012 With M8 and UV/IR-Cut filter, a 28mm definitely needs coding. But then only because of vignetting, right?
WestMichigan Posted March 9, 2012 Share #5 Posted March 9, 2012 And for color shifts from the UV/IR! I shoot with a Voigtlander 28 f1.9 and shooting with the uv/ir but no coding mucked my peripheral colors up. I didn't catch onto the colors issue straight off until I finally did some shooting that wasn't with variegated tones in horribly mixed indoor lighting, but the first time I did some landscape shots in good light the color shift reached out and slapped me it was so obvious. iirc Sean Reid has some nice extensive test shots addressing this exact issue on his site. So I kinda 'knew' I had to get the coding squared away before buying this lens, but I hadn't followed through on it yet. Boy! did I get a gilt edged reminder. My luscious stitched panorama of the snowstorm out my backdoor has quite noticeable cyan bands at top and bottom. But then only because of vignetting, right? ho_co Posted March 10, 2012 Share #6 Posted March 10, 2012 But then only because of vignetting, right? No. Because of the cyan drift due to the angle of view. The wider the field of a lens, the more the edges of the UV/IR-Cut filter attenuate visible red. You're right, the vignetting is part of the correction, but the discoloration toward the edge of the frame caused by the filter is harder to deal with simply IMHO. aleckc Posted March 10, 2012 Share #7 Posted March 10, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have the exact same two lenses. Works well for me! http://www.aleckcartwright.com
camnoj Posted March 11, 2012 Share #8 Posted March 11, 2012 I have a Voigtlander 28mm 1.9 which brings up the correct framlines, has a UV/IR filter and is as sharp as a die. Just bought myself a 28mm sumicron so if you're after a reasonably price Voigtlander with UV/IR filter and adapter let me know.
tobey bilek Posted March 14, 2012 Share #9 Posted March 14, 2012 CV40 will bring up 50mm lines unless a previous owner has filled the lug down to 35mm which many did. The original M8 had pretty tight 50 mm lines so the image will bigger at 10 feet .It may be correct for you. In any case, you can not get it correct for all distances. On full frame it was 35 at distance and 50 up close. Probably best if you check out how yours works close and far. 28 brings up 28mm lines which are same angle of view as 37mm on full frame. Use as is.
Bobitybob Posted March 15, 2012 Share #10 Posted March 15, 2012 I have a Voigtlander 28mm Ultron f2 which I used on my M8 with UV/IR (and now M9 -UV/IR), it does bring up the 28mm frame lines. I manually coded it as a Summicron 28mm f2 with a black CD marker pen and due to the furrow cut in to the flange it has never needed to be redone. Works perfect for me, although it does flare occasionally due to the very small hood. All in all, I think its a good lens for the money
