Bundestrainer Posted March 4, 2012 Share #1 Â Posted March 4, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've got a Leica M9 which comes with Lightroom as you know. Â Since I haven't activated the software, I would like to know whether I am entitled to activate Lightroom 4 when it is available. Does anyone know, please? jneilt Posted March 4, 2012 Share #4  Posted March 4, 2012 I think there is a good answer on the "best way to get a M10" thread
wda Posted March 4, 2012 Share #5 Â Posted March 4, 2012 I seem to recall that with LR3 you could roll over your unused licence, but not straight-away. Presumably Leica and Adobe have to negotiate.
rramesh Posted March 4, 2012 Share #6 Â Posted March 4, 2012 My suggestion is to download and use it. Licensing policy for Adobe like most software companies will change over time. If version 4 is a major release which I think it will be, it will be a chargeable upgrade.

Lindolfi Posted March 13, 2012 Share #8  Posted March 13, 2012 After asking Leica, I received the following statement:  "We regret to inform you that the licenses of previous Adobe Lightroom versions can’t be exchanged due to licensing agreements with the manufacturer.  You are only entitled to download and use the version of Lightroom 3 from the Leica owners area which was the current version at the date of the camera purchase"  So I downloaded the 30 day version. The educational version appears not to be available in Europe yet.
rramesh Posted March 13, 2012 Share #9 Â Posted March 13, 2012 This is what I found. The LIghtroom 4 upgrade is cheaper than most Leica accessories. So I am just proceeding to pay and download.
kdriceman Posted March 13, 2012 Share #10 Â Posted March 13, 2012 I have been saving my TAN number for over a year since I already had LR3, but I've been using the LR4 trial version awaiting its availability on the Leica site. Just logged into the Leica Owners section, punched in my TAN # and there it is... LR4 available for download with the message "The authentication was successful! Please note that the license for the Adobe software only permits you to install the software on maximum two computers. ". I have started the download, so it appears it will allow you to use LR4 if you haven't already downloaded LR3. If I run into a glitch, i will update accordingly. Â Update: Just received an email from Leica with my Adobe LR license number. Â Update 2: License number accepted in LR4 Trial version. All appears to be in order. kdriceman Posted March 13, 2012 Share #12 Â Posted March 13, 2012 I've heard similar reports. So it seems to work. Â Sitting here with $20,000 worth of Leica gear, and yet I couldn't be more thrilled about saving $79 on a Lightroom upgrade. Go figure.
StephenPatterson Posted March 14, 2012 Share #13 Â Posted March 14, 2012 Sitting here with $20,000 worth of Leica gear, and yet I couldn't be more thrilled about saving $79 on a Lightroom upgrade. Go figure. Â Yeah, I've been sitting on a couple of unused TAN numbers for several months now, and somehow it just feels like I have won the lottery by not having to purchase the LR4 upgrade. Â Silly really, I spent more today on a single filter than this upgrade would have cost. Note to self, buy additional filter tomorrow...
jdlaing Posted March 14, 2012 Share #14 Â Posted March 14, 2012 New M9-P today. I'll test drive the TAN number tomorrow.

ljclark Posted March 16, 2012 Share #19 Â Posted March 16, 2012 I know...But three weeks and one day after I bought the M9, this comes out. I made the "mistake" of downloading the 3.2 software, but haven't installed it yet. Of course the license key comes to you automatically and so I am "doomed" to 3.2. Â Don't bother me with facts -- like it's 1% of the camera purchase price.... Â So I returned the e-mail they sent me with the license key. I told them I was returning it and asked them to send me a license key for Lightroom 4. Â (Like that's gonna happen.)
Jeff S Posted March 16, 2012 Share #20 Â Posted March 16, 2012 so I am "doomed" to 3.2. Â Â No you're not; be sure to upgrade to 3.6 (for free). Â Jeff
