S2, SF58 TTL-HSS Mode & PocketWizard©

Seems I have to answer myself: I have done some experimenting with 2 SF 58's, and the short answer is: Manual mode on the camera flash + M-slave mode on the other flash(es).

Again: The SF58 will not fire in TTL mode, in TTL-HSS + M-slave, the slave will fire on the pre-flash, which means it does not add to the actual shot.

The challenge then becomes metering. Both flashes give max output in M mode unless they are set otherwise. I am sure there is some advanced meter that can measure the flash output from multiple flashes as they are fired, I just experiment in Manual mode on the S2 with a couple of shots until it looks right on the histogram.

Hi,

I'm new to this forum and will be a new S user (currently on order). Please forgive my ignorance and if this has already been explained.

I'm very proficient at using off camera speedlights on the Nikon system (using a SB700 to trigger 2 SB910s) as well as do a lot of studio work where I use either Pocket Wizards Plus II's or Profoto Air triggers.

I wanted to ask what is the equivalent for the S-system? I have a SF58 for my M9, but would like to start using that off camera on the S. How would I trigger that? Could I use another SF58 that's on camera to trigger 2 off camera SF58's? Or is there another (less expensive trigger that would have TTL)? Also, would my same Pocket Wizard Plus II's and Protofo Air triggers work for my studio strobes on the S?

I use added light (reflectors, speedlights or studio strobes 100% of the time) so this is quite important for me to figure out how to do so.

Thank you,

Hien
