It may have its little issues here and there -- and to me, they are little issues -- but I absolutely love the camera. Â Hard to explain and I realize this is just my personal preference for rangefinders. But I have the M8 and a Canon 30D - with several lenses for each. Â Before sending the M8 away for its repair, I seldom left home without it and at least one lens. The Canon, on the other hand, pretty much just sits there. I am already spending too much, so taking a loss on what I have is out of the question. I'm locked in. I have an M8, 28mm Elmarit, 90 Elmarit, and a 15mm Voigtlander Heliar plus various accessories. Â Realistically speaking, I was happy with the images from my Canon EOS 1Ds and two lenses plus a Panasonic DMC-LC1. But I wanted something much lighter, less obtrusive, easier to travel with. Â I am in the process of trying to accept the bad with the good. The IR issue, my always dirty sensor, and some rangefinder problems have left me disappointed. I've made the case here for what I think Leica needs to start doing differently, but I've given up expecting them to listen. Not going to happen. Sometimes I feel like we are paying the privilege of $4,795 to beta test someone's product. But that is the way of business in the 21st century (sorry, I'm starting to sound like a socialist/populist). Â Look at it this way--is there a better alternative for me, one that meets all of my criteria? Nope. Time to make the most of it and hope for better things to come.
