leicamann Posted February 29, 2012 Share #1  Posted February 29, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Ok, today was a much better day. The conditions were perfect, overcast, cool and windy. Of the 100's of photographers that were there yesterday, there were only 3 today, but here is the irony..most of these folks think sunny day= great photos, the fact is that for this type of bird with the strong white plumage that couldn't. be farther from the truth.  Same equipment, the 3rd shot is strongly cropped    Thanks for looking  Cheers, JRM

Tullahoma Posted February 29, 2012 Share #4 Â Posted February 29, 2012 These are really nice images. I prefer the second, with the eyes looking straight at the camera. Â I agree. Overcast days produce the best images. Â Jim N.
pauledell Posted February 29, 2012 Share #5 Â Posted February 29, 2012 John, Â A nice set with excellent framing, colors and sharpness, I like the second the most. Â Paul
Iduna Posted February 29, 2012 Share #6 Â Posted February 29, 2012 these are very good shots. the colours are soft for the benefit of the fine lines of the plumage. And the eyes hide a strong personality. Great.

Guest suilvenman Posted March 4, 2012 Share #9 Â Posted March 4, 2012 Very nice set, John. I agree with Iduna - those lovely, subdued pastel colours enhance the bird's plumage. Â Â Ken.
robert_parker Posted March 4, 2012 Share #10 Â Posted March 4, 2012 You really got him to pose this time... Â Just to add that the image quality that can come out of the 560 Telyt never ceases to amaze me.
wildlightphoto Posted March 5, 2012 Share #11 Â Posted March 5, 2012 John I am TOTALLY envious! My favorite is the second and I agree the overcast light is much easier to work with.
Joachim123 Posted March 5, 2012 Share #12 Â Posted March 5, 2012 These birds are absolutely stunning!!! I always hope for overcast days when out photographing. The bright sunshine leaves harsh shadows.

leicamann Posted March 9, 2012 Author Share #15 Â Posted March 9, 2012 Robert, Doug, Joachim, Ben, Brent..thank you very much for looking and posting your feedback. Today was yet another fantastic day as well. It turns out that these owls only come down every 5 to 7 years, so its a VERY special occasion. Today our group brought traditional film for something more archival. If the weather holds, we'll be out again one last time. Â Today our favorite female was out, she is just gorgeous, almost ethereal !! Â I will post her , later tonight. Â Â I estimate that at least 3 to 4 hundred thousand images if not more have been taken of these birds by close to 3,000 photographers. Some outstanding talent /expert naturalists/ ornithologists has made this an event to remember. Â Cheers, JRM
allamande Posted March 9, 2012 Share #16 Â Posted March 9, 2012 WOW! These are mind-blowingly good. If I had to pick one (and I really don't want to) then #2 would be the one, but I love them all. I feel privileged to have seen these. Thank you! Â Ece

Bob Jackson Posted March 12, 2012 Share #19 Â Posted March 12, 2012 All fantastic, but I like the way the eyes of the Owl engage you in the second photograph. A tough shot to get, and very well done. Very nice to see such a bird.
leicamann Posted March 12, 2012 Author Share #20 Â Posted March 12, 2012 Thanks Bob, these are truly wonderful birds to photograph, I was supposed to go out today, but we have a very serious windstorm, I think about them, what do they do to find shelter in these kind of conditions? In the Arctic of course you have the snow.....al we have is a bunch of grass and logs? Â Â Â Cheers, JRM
