Ok, today was a much better day. The conditions were perfect, overcast, cool and windy.

Of the 100's of photographers that were there yesterday, there were only 3 today, but here is the irony..most of these folks think sunny day= great photos, the fact is that for this type of bird with the strong white plumage that couldn't. be farther from the truth.

Same equipment, the 3rd shot is strongly cropped

Thanks for looking

Very nice set, John. I agree with Iduna - those lovely, subdued pastel colours enhance the bird's plumage.

Robert, Doug, Joachim, Ben, Brent..thank you very much for looking and posting your feedback.

Today was yet another fantastic day as well. It turns out that these owls only come down every 5 to 7 years, so its a VERY special occasion.

Today our group brought traditional film for something more archival. If the weather holds, we'll be out again one last time.

Today our favorite female was out, she is just gorgeous, almost ethereal !!

I will post her , later tonight.

I estimate that at least 3 to 4 hundred thousand images if not more have been taken of these birds by close to 3,000 photographers. Some outstanding talent /expert naturalists/ ornithologists has made this an event to remember.

Thanks Bob, these are truly wonderful birds to photograph, I was supposed to go out today, but we have a very serious windstorm, I think about them, what do they do to find shelter in these kind of conditions? In the Arctic of course you have the snow.....al we have is a bunch of grass and logs?
