Brushing aside criticism that this should be in the photo forum!!!!!! I found this old paint brush a couple of years in the woods below my house. I had intended on photographing it against some approriate setting but could never figure out where so I just nailed it up in my garage in order to test my M8 and 50 asph lux. I was stunned at the results which this web version doee not give justice. When I viewed it at 200% I saw detail I could not see with just my bad eyes. It prints superbly. My friends understand that I photograph things that are different Oh well!!!!

Bill--

Absolutely gorgeous shot!

There's a world of wonder there, and you're to be congratulated for seeing it when a lot of us would simply have walked on by.

Thanks for posting.

Now, as for puns like "brushing aside criticism...," they make me bristle. :)

Bill excellent shot , I really like this. I wonder though how it would look in B&W with some real punch to it in terms looking grungy like adding some noise. Might be fun to play with it

beautiful. Thanks for posting this.

hmm well

I like the Zagato, and I see what you were doing there

what you needed in my view was some close in background to provide a nice impression of speed. But yes than can be difficult to organize in a desert I guess. Maybe tweak the levels a bit, give that red car some punch. Photos that just 'pop' out at you

Great shot, Bill. I love old tools.

Let me ask you--is this a crop, or does this represent the closest focusing distance of the 50 lux?

Is there an original DNG you'd mind sharing anywhere?

This was cropped slightly to 8 X 10. My "studio" garage had some clutter in the area. The lighting was actually provided by my florescent shop light. I have it in a b/w but the color seems to work better for me. Where would I post a DNG?

How's this, hope you dont mind...?

Love the picture by the way...:-)

Thanks Guy,

I will try that this evening. I am at work now and the DNG is at home. Some of us actually still go to an office.

The b/w looks great Alexander and I do not mind. Did you convert in photoshop or use something else. I also like the beveled edge effect as well.

Perhaps I need to quit work and work on some of these things. I will run it by the wife!!!

Hmmm. I'm a "black and white" guy, usually, but I have to say, I prefer the color version of the paintbrush. There is so much subtle color there, it adds to rather than distracts from my appreciation of what this camera/lens can do. Isn't that 50 lux asph just a gem?

Hi,

I have the same opinion. B&W makes it flat for me. I like it the way it is - I just tried to make make the top and the bottom a bit brighter and remove the slight color cast I could see on my screen.

Bill,

I really like this image. I like the original much more than the others.

I'd be curious to see the brush the same, but against an untextured background.

Don't know if I'd like it more or not.

Best,

Mitchell

You guys have made my old paint brush look like th holy grail of old paint brushes. The brush is actually about an inch off the wall which gives it some added depth. I will try to shoot agains a background with no texture. Perhaps I should take it on the road where ever I go and photograph it is various settings.
