Stumbled over this new research breakthrough from the Nano Center in Copenhagen

New technology platform for molecule-based electronics – University of Copenhagen

Basically, expect very thin sensors in the future that doesn't develop heat. And this also (in my opinion) leads the way to digital film, meaning a so thin sensor that you can fit it into camera bodies that was build for traditional 35mm film (hold on to those Leicaflex cameras).

Though before we get this, we will get more compact, cooler memory in other devices and more effective sun energy, without depending on exotic metals.

No digital film won't ever resurrect.

There where too many other problems.

About a month ago IBM announced similar techology for potential memory, one atom thick. Makes me think of their work on bubble memory (never successful) about a quarter of a century ago. If this new technology pans out IBM's earlier failure was materials constrained.
