Guest WPalank Posted February 10, 2012 Share #1 Posted February 10, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) The Forum has been excruciatingly slow the last two weeks in loading pages on my MacPro with DSL. (Written 09/02/2012). Is it just me and do I need to call my cable company, repair permissions,...etc.? Let me guess, it's the new "Upgrade to Premium Membership" ploy. You had best be joking with that Best to inquire of your provider. It is quick here in the USA except for moments where perhaps maintenance is occurring. As a former web master it just pisses me off to no end to blame the admin or server.
Guest WPalank Posted February 10, 2012 Share #3 Posted February 10, 2012 You had best be joking with that Best to inquire of your provider. It is quick here in the USA except for moments where perhaps maintenance is occurring. As a former web master it just pisses me off to no end to blame the admin or server. Of course i'm joking on the "Premium Membership" bit. But let me tell you what PISSES me off. When a website IS going through issues (there is probably nothing going on with LUF, thus the reason I asked) and they don't tell the users. Because what I do as a non-admin is assume it is me, call the cable company (put on hold for 20 minutes), then they go through testing my network (another 10 minute). they tell me everything is fine at their end. Then I go through and Verify Permissions (15 minutes), now I go through and Repair Permissions (10-15 minutes). Now I start futzing about with my Airport utilities and the actual device (another hour of my time lost). Now I think about reinstall of OS (4 hours there). Only to be told later down the road that yes we were having problems during that time period. To alleviate the whole scenario (as stated above), IF I WAS A SYSTEM ADMIN for let's say "Kingsley's Rocket Widgets"is the following. I'd a post new thread as a Sticky: "Dear users. Over the next couple of days (insert date), we will be moving to a new server and you may notice an appreciable slowness in the loading of web pages. Thank you in advance for your understanding." {The above took less than 45 seconds to type} [The above happened on the NAPP Forums (minus the bit I wrote about posting a Sticky) for over a month without any administrator coming to admit any problems, whereas close to 200 threads and queries had been submitted publicly.] Now before another member chimes in, and HE WILL, I want to make it very clear that I asked a question. Please see original post. The question is based on the fact that over the last two weeks, I can buzz through other websites, no problem but I am having problems navigating the LUF on all my devices (Pro, iPad, iPhone), and I am wondering if it is only me. Due to your remark pico (and you seem to spend a lot of time here) and I am in the US as opposed to San Francisco, Puerto Rico, it is ONLY my devices and I will go through the headache of all the aforementioned techniques. thank you. pico Posted February 10, 2012 Share #4 Posted February 10, 2012 But let me tell you what PISSES me off. When a website IS going through issues (there is probably nothing going on with LUF, thus the reason I asked) and they don't tell the users.[...] If you cannot contact the site, there is no way it can tell you if something is wrong. k-hawinkler Posted February 10, 2012 Share #5 Posted February 10, 2012 Yup, it's sometimes slower than molasses here in NM as well. A web page starts loading, but then takes forever to finish. K-H.

Guest Posted February 10, 2012 Share #7 Posted February 10, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) My Macbook Air & i-phone 3S are slow only since about midnight. Good idea to try to contact also the provider at some point during the day, because it is so with all sites. Off to my work-out, which if I start late, is less than the 60 minutes it should take and not worth the total time involved. To recoup it instead during the week-end happened sometimes, but I don't like it.

Guest WPalank Posted February 10, 2012 Share #10 Posted February 10, 2012 This morning 10/02/12, switching between pages in LUF it was a bit slow, then at one point it hung for over a minute and I went somewhere else. Among pages on that website (and another, and another) my browser was able to switch like wildfire. I'm using Safari.
larsv Posted February 10, 2012 Share #11 Posted February 10, 2012 Macbook air, airport. No problems here. Once in a while around midnight a tiny bit slower.
Guest WPalank Posted February 10, 2012 Share #12 Posted February 10, 2012 It could be the loading of some adds. I know Andy is a sponsoring member, as well as pico and lars. Hmmm...

pico Posted February 10, 2012 Share #14 Posted February 10, 2012 I've looked at some of the code for this site and it is very well done. Most of the problems are with the server, and not the code. billib Posted February 10, 2012 Share #15 Posted February 10, 2012 I've been having page loading problems as well. Using a Mac and Safari. Sometimes a page won't load and hang for a minute or more. This is happening at times when the net isn't busy.
k-hawinkler Posted February 10, 2012 Share #16 Posted February 10, 2012 Yup. Reloading a page a few times sometimes seems to help. K-H.
andybarton Posted February 10, 2012 Share #17 Posted February 10, 2012 If you are loading lots of google and eBay ads, then it's bound to take longer. If you value the experience of the Forum, subscribing makes a lot of sense. It has to be paid for somehow.

Michael Geschlecht Posted February 16, 2012 Share #20 Posted February 16, 2012 Hello Everybody, I've been having uncharacteristically long waiting times when loading for a number of days now. Including this Post. Re-loading helps sometimes. Best Regards, Michael
