Marac Posted February 8, 2012 Share #1 Posted February 8, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have been shooting with the Voigtlander 50mm f1.1 on my M8 for ages now and it is a delight (especially after the great electrical tape fix for focus issues) but I always dreamt of something wider and nice. Yesterday I finally bit the bullet and got myself an Elmar-M 24mm f3.8 ASPH. I am very excited by the prospect of having everything in focus and a very deep DOF compared to the extreme shallow DOF of the 50mm f1.1. I will head into town as soon as the workmen have finished in my flat to test it out. I just wanted to tell someone who would understand...... hahahaha. Thanks

don_panko Posted February 8, 2012 Share #3 Posted February 8, 2012 The wider lens will be the one on your camera constantly and the longer ones will be for occasional portraits. At least that's what happened with my collection of lens. While travelling I now only take a 21mm lens and let my wife document the trip using her camera. It forces me to look for interesting landscapes or cityscapes and our pictures compliment each other. Enjoy you new wider lens.
Marac Posted February 8, 2012 Author Share #4 Posted February 8, 2012 Had a very interesting first outing with it. Thus far my collection is-: Leica 24 Elmar ASPH Leica Elamr 90-C Voigtlander 50mm f1.1 Voigtlander 15mm ASPH I find the 50 is excellent for portrait The 90 is simply too long for anything really (at the moment) The 15 I use with a hoya R72 on it to get some IR from my M8 but it is a bit too wide for my taste. The 24, so far, has been excellent.. I dream of a 35mm summilux one day. Will post a photo I took today. Welcome, dear visitor! WestMichigan Posted February 8, 2012 Share #5 Posted February 8, 2012 Very Lovely Scene! ... reminds me of the closing scene in the season finale of Sherlock. Richard in Michigan
Marac Posted February 8, 2012 Author Share #6 Posted February 8, 2012 Thanks Richard, this is our local church in town, nice little town in UK. I have been very impressed with the tiny little lens so far and it will demand a change in style from me to compliment it.

spylaw4 Posted February 9, 2012 Share #9 Posted February 9, 2012 As you use it on the M8 you'll get to love it more and more.
Marac Posted February 9, 2012 Author Share #10 Posted February 9, 2012 As you use it on the M8 you'll get to love it more and more. I've managed to have a quick walk in town with it yesterday and was pleased. This lens is totally opposite to everything I have ever done photographically. My normal style is using a very shallow DOF (nokton 50/1.1 canon 85/1.2) so this is very exciting for me to find a decent subject matter and to spread my wings a bit. Hopefully. Double Negative Posted February 10, 2012 Share #11 Posted February 10, 2012 It really is a decent lens. I covered it in two separate reviews: Voigtländer 50mm f/1.1 Nokton Lens Shoot-Out (50mm) I generally try to shoot it at f/1.4, but when the light is gone, f/1.1 can save the day. And speaking of day - I'd advise getting a nice, dark ND filter so you can shoot it wide open. Here are two of my faves (shot at f/1.7 because it was just that bright): L1000652 L1000660
