iphoenix Posted February 8, 2012 Share #1 Posted February 8, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) A (I hope) fairly simple question. Are all Leitz camera cases for screw mount cameras identified in some way (assuming they are in original condition)?
Advertisement Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 Hi iphoenix, Take a look here A Question - Leitz camera cases. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jc_braconi Posted February 8, 2012 Share #2 Posted February 8, 2012 May be not all, but some are identified, depending also what kind of lens is on the camera.

luigi bertolotti Posted February 9, 2012 Share #4 Posted February 9, 2012 If you surf in the Wiki section - Leitz/Leica code names - there are lot of codes that identify the cases for SM Leicas... most of them begin with letter "E" (ESNAR; ESFUS...) , so are easy to find... iphoenix Posted February 10, 2012 Author Share #5 Posted February 10, 2012 Thank you Luigi. On reading my original post again, I see I did not make my question clear. What I wanted to know is: Are all screw mount genuine leica cases stamped with the word "Leica"? I ask because a couple of the cases which came with my cameras are unstamped, yet seem to be of the correct quality. Both came with 1928 updated I(A)'s. jc_braconi Posted February 10, 2012 Share #6 Posted February 10, 2012 Thank you Luigi. On reading my original post again, I see I did not make my question clear. I ask because a couple of the cases which came with my cameras are unstamped, yet seem to be of the correct quality. Both came with 1928 updated I(A)'s. Usually they are embossed Leitz in front of the "noose" and or Leitz Wetzlar at the rear back or in the bottom in a condenser shape, some others are stamper Leitz New York and Germany or Made in Germany ink stamped inside or embossed on the bottom. the variety makes the world beautiful

iphoenix Posted February 12, 2012 Author Share #9 Posted February 12, 2012 I'd love to JC, but I'm (at the moment) totally from the film era. Just coming to terms with my 1 year old Laptop. Will get scanner or working digital camera eventually, and once I've overcome a current problem, will have great pleasure in posting many pictures. By the way, thanks to your earlier information, I've found that one of the two cases has a Leitz stamp on the base. Thank you. David

iphoenix Posted February 13, 2012 Author Share #11 Posted February 13, 2012 Thanks JC, but I'd need to buy a new one to do it. The current one was bought second hand from a Sunday market for $10 3 years ago and as I have a $5 dollar a month mobile plan and a land-line, can't justify the expense of a new one. Regards, David

Regards, David You know, it is unreasonable to expect anyone who really appreciates classic Leicas to be an "early adopter " of new technology... really: new technology began with the "M" mount.... iphoenix Posted February 14, 2012 Author Share #13 Posted February 14, 2012 Thank you David, Walk through my doorway and you walk into the 1950's. An era of wringer washing machines, wind-up gramaphones, bakelite telephones, valve radios and a 60 foot long aerial in the back yard. Oh and, of course, no home would be complete without a Barnack or two, or three, or four, etc.
