lct Posted February 6, 2012 Share #1 Posted February 6, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) After coding it as a Super-Elmar 21/3.4 asph (110011), the CV 21/4P is shown as a f/3.2 (instead of f/3.4) 21mm lens in the exif data of my M8.2. Am i alone to get that?
Advertisement Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 Hi lct, Take a look here Super-Elmar 21/3.2?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Alnitak Posted February 7, 2012 Share #2 Posted February 7, 2012 After coding it as a Super-Elmar 21/3.4 asph (110011), the CV 21/4P is shown as a f/3.2 (instead of f/3.4) 21mm lens in the exif data of my M8.2. Am i alone to get that? Is that the lens name, or the estimated aperture? Remember, the camera can only estimate aperture, so it won't always get it right. lct Posted February 8, 2012 Author Share #3 Posted February 8, 2012 Max aperture. GraphicConverter says "3.4 APEX = F3.2"
adan Posted February 8, 2012 Share #4 Posted February 8, 2012 I expect Graphic Converter has a look-up table of apertures, and if that table is stepped in 1/3 stops, then there is no such thing as "f/3.4". It must pick between f/3.5 or f/3.2 on that scale. Try posting a 21 Elmar (or 21 Elmar-coded) image of any type and size with EXIF data intact. I'll open it in Adobe Bridge and see what Bridge reads. lct Posted February 8, 2012 Author Share #5 Posted February 8, 2012 Thank you Andy. http://lctphot.smugmug.com C1 (v4 to v6), CS3 and Silkypix show a Max Aperture of f/3.2 where Apple's Preview says f/3.398438 and ExifViewer f/3.25. But the latter and GraphicConverter show another data, the "Max Aperture Value (APEX)" which is both f/3.4.
adan Posted February 8, 2012 Share #6 Posted February 8, 2012 Got it - thanks. It does show up in Bridge as: Lens: 21mm Max Aperture Value: f/3.2 But what is interesting is that my own coded lenses show up in Bridge with more detailed EXIF information (from both the M8 and the M9 - dng files). E.G. Focal Length: 90.0mm Lens: Leica Tele-Elmarit-M 90mm f/2.8 (II)........This is what Alnitak means by "lens name", I expect) Max Aperture value: f/2.8 I can't see why your image doesn't show up as: Focal length: 21mm Lens: Leica Super-Elmar-M 21mm f/3.4 (or f/3.2) Max Aperture Value: f/3.4 (or f/3.2) I presume you've updated your M8 firmware since the 21's introduction (older firmware would not recognize a new lens). Yes i have the last firmware update # 2.014 from June 2011. In the latest version of GraphicConverter, the DNG file shows up as Focal length: 21mm, Max Aperture: f/3.2, Approximate F number: f/4.5 and ID Lens: Super-Elmar-M 21mm f/3.4 Asph... So it depends on the softwares i guess but the max aperture remains curiously f/3.2.
