Oki doki, this is lookin' good :)

I shall do some research over the next few weeks and come up with relative parking

costs etc etc. Also, if you need me, I shall be trying out pubs :D Not that I need to,

just feel like it ;)

Have those coming by train had chance to check timetables yet? Do we know what

sort of time people will be arriving in Bristol? Just trying to work out a good time for

everyone to meet up before I visit a venue and check that they don't mind a group

suddenly descending on them.

I've been looking at the price of car parks and it seems that £2.60 for the day on a

Saturday seems to be par for the course. I'll put a link to a map nearer the time. It

will be easier to make a recommendation once I've sorted out a meeting point.

Lynn and I are going to spend some time in the area tomorrow assuming it doesn't

lash down with rain like it has today. I'm particularly aiming to try out a venue for

lunch. I'm assuming we want value for money rather than a slap up three Michelin

Star banquet ;)

Hi Dave

I'll be coming in by car and if anyone is near to my place at Yate I've got room for at least 3 passengers. Hope the weather stays fine for you tomorrow. I can't find your phone number but I was going to give you a call but best to leave that until after tomorrow. Please PM it to me.

Best wishes

Mike :)

The train takes about 1.40 from London so I can make it by 11.00 but others who are travelling from further afield and who have to catch a train into London first might prefer a slightly later start.

Am I right in thinking that I should plan my train journey to Bristol Temple Meads station rather than Bristol Parkway or Bristol Airport?

Pete.

PM sent :D

Just a thought, if anyone has a special dietary requirement, please let me know so that

I can make sure the venue can cater for you.

I have also discovered that on that day there is the Bristol Italian Auto Moto Festival,

a gathering of more than 200 Italian cars in St Nicholas Market. I've been to it before

and it is well worth a look!

Yes Pete, Temple Meads is the one to aim for :)

Temple Meads is the city station. Parkway is in a god-foresaken field out near the M4.

I will probably drive, as the trains from up here are a PITA.

Ah- you will join the million cars waiting to get into the Mall...:p

Fortunately Bristol City Centre is a long way from the Mall at Cribbs and hopefully Broadmead Shopping Centre (Also the Mall) is far enough away not to cause too much of a problem. The only problem you might get is if your are coming down the M32, thats where you might run into some traffic. Hopefully Gibbo was able to get some idea on Saturday as to the best place to park and also to meet up.

Best wishes

Mike

I assume that we would be meeting in the City Centre somewhere?

Lynn and I spent some of Sunday wandering around the harbour area and stopped in

at the Pump House pub. It opens at 11 O'colock and has a free car park. Not only

that, there is also a free car park on the other side of the harbour on Brunel Lock Road.

Merchants Road, Hotwells,, Bristol, Avon BS8 4PZ - Google Maps

Lunch starts at 12 O'clock. One of the barmen spotted my camera, called me over

saying 'That is a Leica, isn't it' 'yes ' says me. 'Is that a Summicron lens?' 'No, it's a

Summaron' and so we entered into a chat :)

I recommend that we start at The Pump House. If trains are getting in to Temple Meads

around 11 we may be able to arrange lifts from there to the pub. I reckon this will give

us time to meet up, have lunch and then set off along the harbour on either side and

head into the city.

I have checked that Bristol City are playing away on the 28th which might have been

a fly in the ointment re parking. I'm going to drive in again on Saturday to see if this is

any worse than it was on Sunday although it is the quieter end of the harbour as people

do tend to park centrally then spread out.

Hopefully this is making sense :)

My wife used to work in Queen Square which is quite central and would walk

round to the Pump House and back the other side of the harbour in her lunch

hour. It's not all that far really.

According to Google Earth that would be a round trip of just over 2.6 miles.

I suppose now would be a good time to ask if people have any difficulty in

walking distances and how far they would consider reasonable. I'm quite

happy to rethink this as we still have plenty of time :)

Thanks. It was all fields round Hotwells when I lived in Bristol ;)

I don't have a problem walking 2.6 miles to get to/from the city, but others might. It depends upon what footpaths are available, and the environs between there and say the Arnolfini etc.

Well, here's a thought. There is a car park at the Mud Dock on The Grove which

is marked 'A' on this map:

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&cp=17&gs_id=1u&xhr=t&q=the+grove+bristol&gs_upl=&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.,cf.osb&biw=1139&bih=628&wrapid=tljp1329856345656032&um=1&ie=UTF-8&ei=nv9DT5iTLcOn0AWStomPDw&sa=X&oi=mode_link&ct=mode&cd=3&sqi=2&ved=0CA0Q_AUoAg

It's within spitting distance of the Arnolfini :) Well I'm not sure I can spit that far actually :D

I'll see if I can come up with some suggestions for lunch venues around there too!

I certainly know of at least three good coffee shops near there.

Excellent area to meet near the Arnolfini David, a good suggestion. its central to see some of 'Old Bristol' or there are plenty of places to sit and chat around Millenium Square or M Shed. It has all the makings of a good meet.

I'm looking forward to be able to put faces to names.

Well done

Best wishes

Mike :)

PS not sure about the Grove Car Park, just checked it out and it say payment is by mobile phone :-( Haven't come across that before !!
