Gently remove and the tape backing will stay on the dot. You can also find a New Black dot from DAG Camera Repair. The tool to adjust can be found here: Vertical Line Focus Adj Tool 4 Leica M4-2 M6 M7 MP M8 | eBay If you have adjusted before, it's done exactly the same way. Cost peanuts, not perfect but it did the job. About the "If you have adjusted before" part, I just moved a little skrew a little bit with a tiny skrewdriver and got lucky - hit the vertical aligment spot at first try. I can do simmilar... That's set by the large screw in the middle of the roller that 'follows' the cam on the lens I think, its a long time since I did that (40 years +!) , as far as I remember I did it with a normal screw driver, although you need a thin but wide blade. It can be done from the front through the bayonet mount but there is a small removable 'plug' in the bottom of the camera to enable it to be done with a lens attached. The plug in the buttom dies not quite align with the adjustment screw on my M3. Did manage to reach the screw from the front, but it was a pain. Anyway, no longer have the M3. The M3s is now getting a bit old and a hole lot of problems can occur. In spite of several services the shutter on mine wouldn't work properly at certain shutter speeds. Pharmlou Posted November 7, 2016 Share #16 Posted November 7, 2016 Not sure if anyone still needs to know, but this link shows in detail how to adjust vertical alignment in the Leica M6 + cameras http://photo.net/leica-rangefinders-forum/00QphO The only thing I might add is use a hair dryer to soften the glue to take the red dot off, then dot comes off with twisting action using a couple of wooden skewers. It comes off so well that the glue stays in place on the body and you can stick it back on without needing extra glue. You do not need to use acetone to soften the glue on that holds the adjustment in place, it is flexible and will allow some adjustment. Turning the custom screwdriver clockwise made by rangefinder image drop rather than go up, so anti-clockwise to bring the image up and only a touch will do it! Good luck and very easy to do!
