NZDavid Posted January 27, 2012 Share #1 Posted January 27, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) The Leica forum is great and I really enjoy it. But with Andy saying he's tired (and mods never seem to sleep), perhaps it's time for another shake-up. Living in Christchurch, I hate that word. OK, tweaking. It's good to keep things fresh. Here are some ideas -- please say what you think. 1) New sub-fora. I have mentioned lenses in a separate post. Any others? 2) Moderators: One per sub forum, or several, or have a rota. 3) Forum redesign: Make it clearer. The current look has been around for a while. I'm not a web designer, but any suggestions? 4) Revised guidelines to posts emphasizing the need for courtesy and good manners at all times. 4) Interactive corner for videos, audio chat, etc. Just some ideas. Of course, it's over to Andreas and mods to decide. Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

andybarton Posted January 27, 2012 Share #2 Posted January 27, 2012 I am NOT tired. Read the other thread properly.
NZDavid Posted January 27, 2012 Author Share #3 Posted January 27, 2012 Andy, you wrote "I am tired"! That is the subject line. I have read your later response. You got it right first time, I think. Otherwise you could have just said you were sick of political discussions on the forum. Reading nearly every post must be tiring, as others have said. I am simply inviting some ideas that might ease the pressure, provide clarity, or otherwise keep the forum fresh. All welcome!
bill Posted January 27, 2012 Share #4 Posted January 27, 2012 Read but not understood, I fear. The word "tired" doesn't seem to travel well... Perhaps you should have said "sick and tired", Andy? Regards, Bill
NZDavid Posted January 27, 2012 Author Share #5 Posted January 27, 2012 So, any thoughts on the ideas above?
jaapv Posted January 27, 2012 Share #6 Posted January 27, 2012 Rota for mods? We are volunteers who are there when they are there. This is a world-wide forum so the posts move with the sun. Regimentation would not work.
NZDavid Posted January 27, 2012 Author Share #7 Posted January 27, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) How about for a set period, weeks or months, perhaps? Then swap around. How about one or two sub fora for each mod? At present it seems all mods are everywhere, some more than others. Benefits? For members, very little change except consistency. For mods, a lighter workload, possibly. That was just one suggestion for the forum anyway. It may be that everyone is perfectly happy with it as it is. bill Posted January 27, 2012 Share #8 Posted January 27, 2012 Given that this is done on a voluntary basis, I would see increased bureaucracy as a strongly retrograde step. A volunteer is worth ten pressed men. I just have visions of the co-ordination required when one mod who is "on duty" has to rearrange with another who is off... Leave as is, I think. jaapv Posted January 27, 2012 Share #9 Posted January 27, 2012 I would opt out in such a setup. It would require synchronizing the forum roster with my private and work schedules. Take one guess at my priorities.... As it is, for instance, "International" mods and German ones take care of their own language section by unspoken agreement. However, if a forum is unattended, or if some large and urgent problem arises, we will jump in. There has never been any problem afaik. If it ain't broke don't fix it. andybarton Posted January 27, 2012 Share #10 Posted January 27, 2012 Me too. The world isn't going to end if something goes unmoderated for 6 hours. The four of us who generally look after the International section seem to cope OK.

digitalpowershot Posted January 27, 2012 Share #15 Posted January 27, 2012 Make the photo-forum easier to view and to comment. If there is a picture of interest, then I will open it and will comment it, not the other way like it is now: you have to open the thread and then you see the picture... kind of, let' put it that way: not user friendly
