You could try just holding the filter under the lens or alternatively place the filter above the negative holder under the condenser.

That's assuming you have the plain square filters, not the ones with a holder.

hi

 

i use a focomat 1c w/o a filter tray for all of my 35mm enlarging. the best way to use the ilford filters is on the condensor; in doing so, you will not suffer any image degradation due to old or scratched filters. I find it very fast and convenient to pop them in and take them out. When I do split grade filering, which is rather rare, I will sometimes hold the filters under the focotar-2 lens...though, this is only when I am being lazy ;)
