fotografr Posted February 24, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted February 24, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Make that "Question," not "Qeustion." Â Sean--You did the survey about the electronic failures of the M8, and I am curious what the conclusions were. What percentage of the cameras seem to be failing? Has Leica ever determined what the cause of the failure is? Â I'm asking because I got my M8 back just over a week ago and it is again dead. I've done everything suggested to remedy it, and nothing will revive it. I was shooting in the afternoon, turned it off and put it on a shelf. Two hours later I picked it up, turned it on and there was no response. Put in a fresh battery, still no response. Different memory card, still nothing. This time I will insist on a new camera rather than a repair on this lemon, but what are the chances I'll finally end up with one that works?
wparsonsgisnet Posted February 24, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted February 24, 2007 Brent, find the thread. He got about 9% failures of some sort in the small sample.
carstenw Posted February 24, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted February 24, 2007 Wasn't it 13 of 140? There was some discussion as to the validity of the results. In the end, they are probably indicative (if I am using the correct term), but the exact values cannot be trusted, since it was a self-selecting set. fotografr Posted February 24, 2007 Author Share #5 Â Posted February 24, 2007 Bill, Carsten and James--Thanks for the information and link. I've now read through it and have pretty much determined that the only alternative is to send it back to Solms for a replacement. I've now had two M8 failures (although I believe they repaired, rather than replaced, the first one), so the question of statistical significance or validity of Sean's study doesn't mean much to me. All I can say is that I am 100% upset with the situation--but having seen, albeit briefly, what the camera is capable of producing, I fully intend to perservere until I get one that works properly. sean_reid Posted March 1, 2007 Share #7 Â Posted March 1, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi All, Â The significance of the survey, ultimately, is that a problem does exist even if we can't quite gauge what percentage of M8 owners have experienced these particular problems. Leica is aware of the survey results. Â Best, Â Sean
wparsonsgisnet Posted March 1, 2007 Share #8 Â Posted March 1, 2007 Brent, sorry for your pain. Â If I were in your shoes, I would be leaning on the dealer to refund my money and spending it on a camera at one of the posted locations where new ones are available. Â Good luck.
