Qeustion For Sean

Make that "Question," not "Qeustion."

Sean--You did the survey about the electronic failures of the M8, and I am curious what the conclusions were. What percentage of the cameras seem to be failing? Has Leica ever determined what the cause of the failure is?

I'm asking because I got my M8 back just over a week ago and it is again dead. I've done everything suggested to remedy it, and nothing will revive it. I was shooting in the afternoon, turned it off and put it on a shelf. Two hours later I picked it up, turned it on and there was no response. Put in a fresh battery, still no response. Different memory card, still nothing. This time I will insist on a new camera rather than a repair on this lemon, but what are the chances I'll finally end up with one that works?

Bill, Carsten and James--Thanks for the information and link. I've now read through it and have pretty much determined that the only alternative is to send it back to Solms for a replacement. I've now had two M8 failures (although I believe they repaired, rather than replaced, the first one), so the question of statistical significance or validity of Sean's study doesn't mean much to me. All I can say is that I am 100% upset with the situation--but having seen, albeit briefly, what the camera is capable of producing, I fully intend to perservere until I get one that works properly.

Hi All,

The significance of the survey, ultimately, is that a problem does exist even if we can't quite gauge what percentage of M8 owners have experienced these particular problems. Leica is aware of the survey results.

Best,

Sean

Brent, sorry for your pain.

If I were in your shoes, I would be leaning on the dealer to refund my money and spending it on a camera at one of the posted locations where new ones are available.

Good luck.
