Advertisement Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Hi maccaco, Take a look here Collapsible Industar-50 on the M8?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
maccaco Posted January 10, 2012 Author Share #2 Posted January 10, 2012 My only question is the matter of collapse that, as the elmar-50/3.5, I think I understand this may damage the shutter
doubice Posted January 10, 2012 Share #3 Posted January 10, 2012 The thread mount 3.5/50mm Elmar can be collapsed into the M8, without any damage to the shutter. Not sure about the Industar. Best, Jan
maccaco Posted January 10, 2012 Author Share #4 Posted January 10, 2012 Thanks Jan, From what I've read, I think I understand that Industar 50 is an exact copy of Leica. Am I right?
brianv Posted January 11, 2012 Share #5 Posted January 11, 2012 It is more of a copy of the Zeiss Tessar with regard to the placement of the aperture mechanism. The Industar-50, a good one, compares well with a coated Elmar. I picked up one in a trade, and had to adjust the Shim for the Leica standard. I never tried to collapse it on an M8. On a Barnack Leica, the focus lever will hang up on the slow-speed dial. Will not be a problem on an M8.
doubice Posted January 11, 2012 Share #6 Posted January 11, 2012 Thanks Jan,From what I've read, I think I understand that Industar 50 is an exact copy of Leica. Am I right? The 3.5/50mm Industar is a bit of a 'bastard'. As Brian mentioned above, optically, it is a copy of the Zeiss Tessar. Mechanically however, it is similar to the collapsible Leitz Elmar. I do recall from having handled one years ago, it does not reach as deep into the camera as the Elmar - so, you should be OK collapsing it into the M8. Here is a photo of a 'nickel' 3.5/50mm Elmar collapsed into my M8...... Best, Jan Welcome, dear visitor! maccaco Posted January 11, 2012 Author Share #7 Posted January 11, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thank you both. I will buy it because it is like new and the price is very good. To play is fine. The 3.5/50mm Industar is a bit of a 'bastard'. I liked that definition ... is fun!

Dan Bachmann Posted August 31, 2013 Share #9 Posted August 31, 2013 I've got the 1950 version of the lens (Industar 22 50mm f/3.5 collapsible). Have you had luck collapsing it into your M8?
jaapv Posted September 1, 2013 Share #10 Posted September 1, 2013 My only question is the matter of collapse that, as the elmar-50/3.5, I think I understand this may damage the shutter In that case it would damage the shutter of a film M as well...
