Question: What do these chairs have to do with horses? ;):D

Seriously—I like this picture. It looks as if these chairs have inhaled deeply, like someone who is inflating his chest in order to give a proud and energetic impression, in an attempt to repudiate the fact that their days are up and no-one wants to sit down on them anymore. Fantastic and very clever use of a super-wide lens! The picture would not look like this if it had been taken with a moderate wide-angle or standard lens.

Thanks so much for your take on the image. I didn't think exactly that, but I was in the same ballpark. I took the shot with a 35mm centered and weighted to one side and it didn't work.

I added a few more to my personal gallery from the shoot on Thursday.

The 12mm will be my next lens.

Great pics guys.

Question, any one find a nice case that hold the 12mm m mount lens with viewfinder?

They do make a leather case for the older 12 and 15mm that holds both the lens and viewfinder but don't think it fits the new m mount 12mm

I don't know. My CV 12mm is the first version, LTM with an LTM-M adapter. But that case is just perfect for it.

I paid $650 for mine on fredmiranda. No viewfinder.

The more I shoot with it, the more I don't see the need for a viewfinder. Such a wide angle is so forgiving. It's not a lens I use for critical moment stuff, if it doesn't work, I just try again.

In the end, it's a lot of fun to use.

I will try it without a finder, just got to remember where your feet and fingers are.

Here is a shot my friend took of me taking a picture of the Rockefeller grave marker. We both were using MP's with CV 15mm ( I am on the ground taking the picture looking up .)

Theres one more picture some where that you can see feet.

I prefer the LTM version as it is far more compact.

The biggest downside of the lens is that, starting at f 5,6, on the M9 it is a very effective device to find the smallest grain of dust on the sensor, which results in a lot of work in post production.

The other downside is: Waves in the viewfinder do not "appear closer than they are", in fact you are wet when they still seem to be some meters away. :o)

Seeing the Eiffel Tower shot reminded me of my trip to Paris in 2010 with my M9 and this lens. It came in handy not just at the Eiffel, but also at I. M. Pei's glass pyramid at the Louvre:

I now got my new Voigtlaender 12mm and the viewfinder also. Very nice.

I also bought a coder kit (Match Technical) and have a question:

Both in the incl. instructions and on the web people referring to the coding (with the incl. pen) to be "temporary", and depending on tightness of the fit between the lens and the body, environmental factors, i.e. humidity, and how often the lens will be removed.

Well, if this is the case, why not do an initial marking with the pen and then take a quality lacquer and mark the spot "permanently". Would there be a reason NOT to do this, or why does nobody seem to mention this?

Thanks for explaining.

Because such a lacquer doesn't exist.

If you know one then everybody will be interested to hear about it.

Anyone with experience of using the Voigtländer 12 mm + the WATE finder? I know that this only goes to 16 mm, but it might do at a pinch ...

Hardly. Outside the 16 mm frmelines there is only little extra room. It corresponds to approx. 15 mm field-of-view on a 35-mm full-frame camera, or maybe 14 mm when you move the eye around at the eyepiece. Still better than no wide-angle finder at all ... but definitely not adequate.

Those who are considering the purchase of a 15 mm or 12 mm Voigtländer lens but are having doubts about the image quality or the red-edge issue may want to wait for the release of the next Leica M lenses. Rumour says there will be a Super-Elmar-M 14 mm 1:3.8 Asph lens soon ... in fact, the current M9 firmware already can associate the lens code 51-2 with "14/3.8".
