canonelan Posted January 3, 2012 Share #1 Posted January 3, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello, The black rubber padding near the thumb rest became unglued right at the edge where it meets the SD card door. I think is from sliding the SD card door in and out that caused the padding became unglued. Should I glue it back ? and with what type of glue ? But I would be very careful. Maybe it is better going to your shop 1st and ask there for advice.
Guest happytogger Posted January 7, 2012 Share #3 Posted January 7, 2012 Hi Kenny I have never done this repair, so these recommendations are just an idea (please see their drawbacks before using ) 1. Doublesided sticky tape 2. Natural adhesive (eg casein) 3. Glue used in leatherette camera skins.

Digitom Posted January 8, 2012 Share #7 Posted January 8, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) NEVER!! use Cyanocrylate glue for this kind of repair! A contact adhesive (Pattex for Germans ) is fine. OK. BUt please why not Cyanoacrylate? When it is dry, there is no problem. BUt you will never detach the rubber again. These cyanoacrylate glue is the best one can imagine. Pattex can be used, but be careful the rubber will be sticky and Pattex is more aggresive then the other glue to rubber. Digitom Posted January 10, 2012 Share #8 Posted January 10, 2012 Still no answer why NOT using Cyanoacrylate. I think it is no problem to speak against an advice, but then it is better to EXPLAIN WHY, isn´t it? So I think there is no reason not to use it (except the knowledge that the superglue cannot be removed - but "Pattex" can.
jaapv Posted January 11, 2012 Share #9 Posted January 11, 2012 It will stain the plastic around it (The "chrome" is not metal!) and it will make it difficult to remove the covering without damaging the camera - the covering will need to be removed if the camera should have to be repaired. Because it dries hard the leatherette will be less flat over time too. But feel free to use it - as long as it is not on my camera.
