outsourcinggeek Posted December 21, 2011 Share #1 Posted December 21, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) It seems that these model names are interchangeable. My uncle has a pair that he calls "Model D" - My dad had several (now in storage) and he always called them Model II's. All of them have serial numbers in the 78000's (1932) and BLACK. My uncle doesn't believe they are worth much, but I believe the are worth some substantial dough. Is there a source where I can estimate value and properly identify?? Advertisement Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 Hi outsourcinggeek, Take a look here Is there a difference between a Model II and a Model D?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
UliWer Posted December 21, 2011 Share #2 Posted December 21, 2011 In Germany Leitz named their camera models with roman numbers and letters behind them, for export they were only named with capital letters. A Leica II is the same as a Leica D. For their value you should look first at the "sticky" posting at the top of this subforum: to make it short, it makes no sense asking for values here as nobody can tell you. A model II in black and nickel and a good condition is one of the most beautiful Leicas of all times. It has everything a camera needs and there is no single useless part in it. You will never find anything more easygoing and userfriendly. I'd keep it, have it looked after by someone who knows the job and enjoy it.
luigi bertolotti Posted December 22, 2011 Share #3 Posted December 22, 2011 Welcome to the forum ! - To identify them , our Wiki section is easy to surf and rather complete ; lot of infos in various books and on the Net, too. - To have an idea of value, Leica II (model D) are not rare, so is easy to find them for sale on ebay and various e-sellers. - Seems you are not so interested in them as user cameras... but take into account UliWer advice... old Leicas are VERY pleasant to use. Hi and thank you for your response - I read that sticky right after I posed my question. My apologies. I guess what I didn't say was that I will keep my fathers Leica collection he's got a lot of nice cameras - several MI, MII, and MII from before the war and about every gadget to go along with them. I'd never be able to part with them and I'll pass them along to my son. My uncle on the other hand wants to unload his equipment and I've offered to help him out. He has a pair of Model II/D's, 35mm, 50mm and 90mm lens, leather cases, camera bag, etc. I need to get that gear in my hands so I can test function and evaluate condition I appreciate all of your assistance and will keep you posted if you and other readers are interested! outsourcinggeek Posted December 22, 2011 Author Share #6 Posted December 22, 2011 Oh, I should also say that my father insisted that I learn how to take pictures on real equipment and I spent years with a Leica I and Leica 2. Dad's stuff stays with me and on to my boy as well. :-)
luigi bertolotti Posted December 22, 2011 Share #7 Posted December 22, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Ah... that's pleasant to know... in this forum we always are a bit "cold" with people that simply happen to have some Leica gear and simply wants to discard it... outsourcinggeek Posted December 22, 2011 Author Share #8 Posted December 22, 2011 I hear you - I'm also in to collecting firearms, and I see a lot of traffic on my favorite forums from people who inherited a Mauser or Springfield and just want to dump the stuff. My problem is that I want to collect it all. No, Dad is gone now and the Leica's are mine as are a life time of memories learning my f-stops and exposure times. Trying to figure out how to get his enlargers from my moms house to my house... and what can I do with them here?
