I've been waiting for Leica to ship back my M8 for what feels like forever. I purposely waited until after the new year to ship it on advice from Leica in NJ. The camera was shipped to NJ at the beginning of January, and the tracking system says the following:

Leica repair tracking

Status request - service order

repair order XXXXXX

Date State

29.01.2007 Service order registered on

31.01.2007 Oder confirmation sent

31.01.2007 In repair

13.02.2007 Repair completed. Shipping in process.

2/13?!?! It's 2/21 now! I got a letter from Leica in Germany around January 16th (more than a week after I overnighted it to NJ) saying that the repair was authorized and the total repair time was 4-5 weeks. FROM WHEN? From the time it reached Allendale, NJ, or when it got to Germany? I'm waiting close to 8 weeks.

Anyone else waiting this long?! This is ridiculous.

Regrettably yes. Mine went in early November, came back late January. Sorry for the bad news.

Yikes, that is a very long time as well, close to 3 months! Not the quoted 3-4 weeks from the initial press release or even the 4-5 weeks in my repair order.

To me, it's a shame. I don't understand why they don't see making their customers whole again in reasonable timeframe as a top priority. I love the M8, but I'd also love to USE it. Two months is almost double what they quote as the time there and back again.

It sounds like the customs issue with the US plus the bulk shipment of M8 cameras in batches to Germany is the biggest set of culprits! Of course, once the camera leaves Leica Germany, their tracking system stops updating (at least for me--where in the world is my M8?)

Your experience is almost exactly the same as mine. Mine went to Allendale 1/2, over to Germany the following week. Not much happened for a month or so, then went in repair on 1/31 like yours. Repair completed a week earlier than yours--2/6 to be exact. Shipped out shortly thereafter to Allendale, where it had to pass through customs, get checked out, and be sent out 2nd day UPS. It arrived this past Monday. So I'd hope to see yours on 2/26--this Monday. You should call Allendale--Robert Fisk or get someone there to tell you what is happening and what to expect. I hope they fixed everything to your satisfaction.

I sure hope so. At least you give me hope that I'll actually see the darn thing. I only sent it in because of the high ISO banding; otherwise I would never have bothered. Thanks for your story!

Mine went from my home to NJ 1/15, and came back Monday, 2/19. The repair tracking in Solms registered 1/29 (if I recall rightly) and completed 2/7. I agree with photolandscape---give Leica NJ a call to make sure all is well, and expect your camera within a week.
