Me too have the Elmar in silver, and me too (time to time, not a top priority) think that switching to the black could be fine.... :)... pity I have also the focusing mount in chrome,,, for esthetics, I should have to search also for the black version of it...:o

JC,

I reckon that to get approximately equivalent quality on my silver E.65mm, I need to run at one and a half to two stops slower than my stolen black one. Even then, extreme corner sharpness is not as good on the silver one, especially if I am using it on the M9. On the M8 the corner definition with the crop frame is not really an issue. If you are copying large old books, corner definition really matters.

JC,

There is a cheaper one for sale in Canada. However it did not come up until a few days before my daughter, who could have brought it with her, left the USA for the UK. I cannot face all the expense and hassle of dealing with UK customs, now that you get charged duty, processing fee, collection levy and then 20% of the total of those amounts plus the assessed value.

If I was still doing a lot of museum work, I would go for the one in Germany. However, the museum work has virtually dried up and what is on offer, is at such a low price, that taking travelling expenses into account, it is just not worth it.
