'ello folks!

Just to make a formal introduction, before I started adding more posts to this great forum. :D

I just recently acquired an M8.2 with a 28mm Elmarit. Traded in basically my whole Nikon kit (D700 and 24-70, 50mm, and some other stuff). So I'm quite committed ;) Still managed to keep a 85mm ZF.2 Zeiss which will help to finance another lens.

I'm not gonna post pictures just yet... still have to get to know this baby. No, it doesn't like the dark, and at 2.8, the 28mm doesn't behave like I'm used to with the D700.

First two days have been good.

I just bought my first RF two months ago.... just like yours, M8.2 plus 28mm Elmarit ASPH. I still keep my Canon 5D with L zoom lenses as well as my R7 film camera.

The M8.2 is a joy to use, congratulations.

Welcome!

Meetings are first tuesdays of the month.

Since you're new, you can bring the donuts for January!

Ha Ha

Just Kidding: no regular meetings, no donuts.

Though there are occassional regional meetups that do occur from time to time.

Hehe. Thanks peeps. Just cause you said donuts, I'm gonna buy some donuts if ever there is a meet :p.

I'm now on my 3rd day. I have yet to learn a lot about how M8.2 handles. I notice that I've grown far to accustomed to automated uses. Things that worked previously, aren't as intuitive as I thought. I did not want to go half way and keep my dslr. RF for me from here on in; everything else on my wife's P&S. :D

Guess Ima gonna have to start saving for the 50mm summicron as my next lens.

Oh boy...reading these stories makes me insane. I´m in a position to get a 2nd hand 8.2 for 2500€, and they´ll give me a whopping 300€ in trade for my Olympus E-P2 too...:D

I already have M4 & M6 plus 35/50/90 Summicrons. SHOULD I DO IT???

Welcome - I'm also one of the newish newbies - M8, and nearly everyday it teaches me some very rewarding lessons, mainly by making me wonder why I was reticent about trying something.

Example - 2 weekends ago our little town had its annual Ride-on-racing-lawnmower day and as usual I take pics of everything so we can all post the event on line, so armed with a DSLR and the M8 I went about my business - I reasoned that I'd loose too many shots trying to manually focus on the either the lawnmowers or motorbikes with side cars - so this was the moment when I had to really believe in pre-focus. f8 and set focus so infinity is in direct line with f8 on the dof guide, look through the viewfinder and everything looks out of focus! a bit of a worry! to cut a long story short, of course it worked perfectly every time and much quicker than the DSLR, I guess its just a matter of trust.

alw - I wouldn't sell the EPL, handy little holiday camera and you can use your Leica lenses on it

That is a reasonable price for an M8.2, I think, and a very good trade in value for an E-P2.

@FTI, Welcome. Please be mindful that we DO require a pinprick in a finger for DNA analysis and membership initiation....

@ALW, Do it!!!!

Thank you. It's actually quite funny that you mentioned pinprick... Just before getting on this forum, I did indeed prick my finger on a wooden toothpick while scraping off the white M8 logo :-)

The price is good, so why not?

Well, regarding the lenses you already have, a M9 could make more sense. I myself got the M8 couple of months ago. Image quality is perfect. But:

1) My favorite focal length was and is 35, so I needed a 28mm lens. Presumably you will need a 24 or 28 lens as well for the 35 equivalent. I knew that before, got a 28 Leica lens, which is my primary lens on M8 now. When I eventually upgrade to full frame in future, the 28 will still be very useful.

2) I do not like my 90 any more, which with the M8 crop is now 120. I knew that before as well, but thought 120 would be nice. Do not use the 90 on M8.

Nevertheless, the M8/M8.2 is a wonderful camera. I have no regrets.

I know, I know...still, my favourite lens is 50mm, so 35mm with M8 would be quite ideal??
