iPhone light meters

Oddly enough, I was just about to post a thread about using iPhone light meter apps instead of "real light meters".

Which one do you use? I use one called "FotometerPro" (which was $0.99 or $1.99, can't remember) and it has been serving me very well. Super simple - ISO, aperture, shutter speed, and +/- EV. You can select reflected or incident. Above all, it is rather consistent - and what more can you ask for from a light meter?

Recently got the camera meter app.

On the e/v section it flips between 1/3 + -etc but also has numbers the can go anywhere between 5 to 13 in general ...what are these numbers for?

Thanks

Steve.

Steve,

They'll be EV (Exposure Value).

Pete.

Have any of you more formally compared these to standard hand-held light meters?

Mark

Yes, compared with calibrated handheld meter and found fotometerpro to be correct over a large range within half a stop. But beware, indication is in full stops in terms of exposure time. ISO can be set in 1/3 stops and aperture in half stops.
