dritz Posted November 23, 2011 Share #1 Posted November 23, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Considering an S system for which I would need to sell quite a bit of R and M gear. Though I have many lenses, I pretty much stay with the 21, 35, 50, 90. On the M I sometimes use the 135. On the R I generally leap to the 180. That said, I decided to use the angle of view to determine the equivalency of lenses in the two formats. My conclusions are as follows with the emphasis on how closely my preferred focal lengths map to the S lenses. M21mm has no equivalent. The S30mm is close enough as its field of view is equal to the M24mm. M35 (64 degrees) has no equivalent in the S line. M50 (47 degrees) almost has a reasonable equivalent in the S line with the S70 (42 degrees) M90 (27 degrees) has a reasonable equivalent in the S line with the S120 (25 degrees) M135 (18 degrees) has a reasonable equivalent in the S line with the S180 (17 degrees) Is this correct thinking on my part? Anyone else find it strange that there is no reasonable equivalent for the M35? Regards, Dean
Advertisement Posted November 23, 2011 Posted November 23, 2011 Hi dritz, Take a look here S lens equivalency to 35mm format. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Arif Posted November 23, 2011 Share #2 Posted November 23, 2011 I have been very happy with my S35 which is a 28mm equivalent. For me it was good enough not to find a reason to spend an additional $6-7k.
tom0511 Posted November 23, 2011 Share #3 Posted November 23, 2011 I guess one day there will be a 35mm equivalent. Leica needed to bring a certain range of lenses to make the system work and therefore there are maybe some gaps in between. For me works the range quite good as well, even though I have 35mm for my M9 I dont miss it much for the S2. 28mm FOV is not that different and in the worst case a little cropping doesnt hurt (in my case). I even sometimes dont bring the 70 and just carry 35 and 120.
Guest #12 Posted November 25, 2011 Share #4 Posted November 25, 2011 ... The original plans called for a 24, 100, and 350. Some people are still talking as if these lenses are coming. Personally I am more concerned with replacing a 75, as 75 X 1.25 = 94mm in the S format. Could be worse...some MF systems have like three lenses to choose from...
