Studio58 Posted November 18, 2011 Share #1 Â Posted November 18, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Meanwhile.... in the other thread regarding the :pextortionate practice of Leica's lens pricing policy... Â I was viewing an old photography handbook today dated 1987. In it are the various makes and models of photographic items of the day, including camera bodies. The price of the Leica M6 inc tax... $3,750. 24 years on it makes Leica's current offerings look like a bargain in comparison
Advertisement Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 Hi Studio58, Take a look here Leica body prices. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
wattsy Posted November 18, 2011 Share #2  Posted November 18, 2011 Is that Australian dollars?  I bought my first Leica M - an M6TTL - in 2001 and it cost, brand new, USD 1395. This worked out at around GBP 900 or so at the time. The nearest equivalent body new today is £3500.
Studio58 Posted November 18, 2011 Author Share #3 Â Posted November 18, 2011 Aussie dollars. Do you still use an M6 ?
wattsy Posted November 18, 2011 Share #4  Posted November 18, 2011 No, I now use a glorified M6 (aka MP). I wish that had cost £900.

Messsucherkamera Posted November 19, 2011 Share #9  Posted November 19, 2011 Then there's this: Rare Leica cameras sold at auction  I was starting to think that current production Leica cameras and lenses were becoming the exclusive trinkets of the rich and shameless.  That was until I saw the prices paid at auction for the specimens in the above story.  Jeez!! SJP Posted November 20, 2011 Share #10 Â Posted November 20, 2011 My first Leica was a M2 with 35/2.8 summaron, about 52 year old, for 600 euro. It still kicks ass compared to all the other cameras I own (except M8). Â For me that is cheap in the absolute scale of desirable things. Leica stuff is not very expensive compared to many other items that I could mention (e.g. cars, clothing, flight, insurance) & certainly much more fun.
