stunsworth Posted February 18, 2007 Share #1 Posted February 18, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Another shot from this afternoon. I'm not too sure if this is really good enough to post because it's basically just a point and shoot image, but the light was very good, and the group of terminally non-intimidating hoodies who'd been sat on the front steps had just left - and taken their empty cans of lager with them. They're very civilised in this part of the world :-) The house - Elizabethan - was closed, but entry to the grounds was free - perhaps a first for a National Trust property! I've always imagined that Lord Barton of Barton lives in a pile lilke this. M8, 21mm Voigtlander
Advertisement Posted February 18, 2007 Posted February 18, 2007 Hi stunsworth, Take a look here Gawthorpe Hall, Lancashire. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
andybarton Posted February 18, 2007 Share #2 Posted February 18, 2007 Funnily enough... You'd be amazed at Barton Towers. We have parts that go back over 300 years. (not quite Elizabethan...) I shall have to get the social secretary to invite you for tea one Sunday.
azzo Posted February 19, 2007 Share #3 Posted February 19, 2007 Lovely light and colours and framing Steve. I like the shadows in the foreground too. At least, the tree on the left is still young and not obstructing the beautiful building, making it difficult to get a decent shot. Azzo
elansprint72 Posted February 19, 2007 Share #4 Posted February 19, 2007 Barton's gatehouse is larger than that, and there's one either side of the main drive. D'ya reckon this place is worth a visit, we've never been.
stunsworth Posted February 19, 2007 Author Share #5 Posted February 19, 2007 Pete, not sure if it's worth a special trip, but if you're in the area it's worth a visit. The hall looks interesting, but it was shut so I've no idea about what's inside. The grounds seem quite small.
elansprint72 Posted February 19, 2007 Share #6 Posted February 19, 2007 Pete, not sure if it's worth a special trip, but if you're in the area it's worth a visit. The hall looks interesting, but it was shut so I've no idea about what's inside. The grounds seem quite small. I think we'll call in sometime (have got NT membership). Did you know that the hall was built by Obediah Gawthorpe, the inventor of the clog iron?
stuny Posted February 19, 2007 Share #7 Posted February 19, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Steve - Reagardless of whether a point and shoot camera could have captured this, and you didn't have to adjust anything, you still had to see it and frame it. Lovely light and composition.
Peter41951 Posted February 20, 2007 Share #8 Posted February 20, 2007 Well.... point, frame and shoot! A really successful portrait of a fine house. The light *is* good.

M8, 21mm Voigtlander Steve, We go to quite a lot of NT properties, and the grounds are quite often free. Of course if you are a member its all 'free' ! The picture seems to me to have some diverging verticals, or is it perhaps my monitor? Gerry
