I have been offered a 28mm Elmarit Type 4 lens. I want to purchase a 28mm lens, but would like to hear from any users on this forum about their particular experience with this version of this lens.

I have it for 10 Years now. It a wonderful lens and performs well on any M.

Do you happen to know the Leica Part Number for that lens? Thanks

I have heard so many good things about the Elmarits. How do the 24 and 21 Elmarits stack up against any other s out there?

Must be the Elmarit-M 28/2.8 # 11809 i guess.

So does anyone know how the Version III-#11804 compares to this Version IV-#11809?

# 11804 (pic): I have very little experience with it. I tried it briefly in the last century and preferred the M-Rokkor 28/2.8 for similar results in a saller size at a more affordable price. The 11804 is a sharp lens in the center but less so on edges and corners.

# 11809: I have no experience with it. It is said to be the best Elmarit-M 28 ever made aside from the current asph version. According to Erwin Puts, Leica M-Lenses - Their Soul and Secrets, September 2002, page 30 in fine, « The fourth version of the 28mm focal length lens has only one drawback: its modest aperture of f/2.8 ».
