khanosu Posted February 17, 2007 Share #1 Posted February 17, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi Everybody, I have been using my M8 for a little more than two months now and am really happy with it. Except for a couple of lock-ups that were fixed by removing the battery and reinserting it back; it has been completely trouble free. I have been using it on a daily basis and it has been exactly what I had wanted. I have started two albums (known as sets in Flickr language) at Flickr.com, one for M8 B&W picture and one for the color ones. You are welcome to browse the albums; they contain an assortment of pictures. The site is under construction but a few albums are complete, like Dance 1, Dance 2, Pakistan 1 and Pakistan 2; these are made by non-Leica cameras but of course you are welcome to browse them also. The albums (sets) are on the right hand side of the Flickr page; just scroll to find the right album and click on it. The site is here: My Flickr Site Flickr can be a bit confusing if you are not used to it. On the right is one column devoted to sets (albums); on the left are all the pictures that are added to the site in the order they were added. Hope you enjoy the pictures. scott kirkpatrick Posted February 18, 2007 Share #4 Posted February 18, 2007 Furrukh, those are very intriguing sets. I see that you care about composition, and crop to some characteristic shapes like square and 4:3. Are you thinking in terms of those crops when you shoot? scott
peterv Posted February 18, 2007 Share #5 Posted February 18, 2007 Bill and Furrukh, good to here guys are happy with your M8. (me too...) I like your B/W photo's. What workflow did you use for them? Cheers, Peter

sean_reid Posted February 18, 2007 Share #7 Posted February 18, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) It's good work. Its too bad that you can't leave teaching and research all together and just make pictures full-time. Cheers, Sean
khanosu Posted February 18, 2007 Author Share #8 Posted February 18, 2007 Hi Everybody, Thanks a lot for your kind comments. I felt that the M8 community was feeling a bit down these days because of M8 lockups and needed a happy M8 story. Hopefully my pictures have uplifted a few spirits Since my pictures are mainly happy pictures I have just added the album “Robby’s Wedding” if you are interested. Scott: I am not sure that I am thinking about anything when I make pictures. I believe that pictures are made at a subconscious level since there is very little time to think and react. When the opportunity arises I just lift the camera to the eye level and press the release; sometimes there is no time to do that either (I mean no time to lift the camera to the eye level). For inside pictures I keep the camera pre-focused to a certain distance and for outside pictures I set the lens to hyper focal distance. I make cropping decisions later during editing. Peter, for the M8 I use Photoshop CS3 and Bridge. I convert to B&W using the PS plugin by “ the image factory”. Since I am not a pro I have the luxury to spend a lot of time on each picture since my throughput is minuscule compared with what most pros have to produce. I do dodge and burn when required. Bill: Nice Images! Sean , that would be fun. Make pictures full time The M8 is a very nice camera for the type of pictures I make. So far I did not have an opportunity to use it at a wedding or dance reception etc. Most of the pictures you saw in the M8 album are form a Mormon baptism I was invited to by my neighbors and the party that followed. Thanks again for all your comments. Furrukh

khanosu Posted February 18, 2007 Author Share #11 Posted February 18, 2007 Thanks Guy Peter, for B&W you really do not need PS3 or Bridge, any program that lets you mix channels to produce B&W could produce these results. With color the RAW converter you use becomes more important and I do like PS3/ACR combo in combination with the IR cut filters. Furrukh
Guest Bernd Banken Posted February 18, 2007 Share #12 Posted February 18, 2007 Furrukh, you captured so many good pics in b/w. But be careful;) ,or you sit in the trap like me. I made so many shoots in b/w so I can't "see" in color. HHmm, not so easy for me... Bernd
Guest guy_mancuso Posted February 18, 2007 Share #13 Posted February 18, 2007 Raw Developer for Mac users has some really nice controls for B&W work. I used that in my whole Yosemite series i did back in Dec. and loved it . I think the web site is Iridient Digital - RAW Developer Download
khanosu Posted February 18, 2007 Author Share #14 Posted February 18, 2007 Hey Bernd, Very beautiful B&W pictures at your site! I agree with you completely. Color is very difficult to handle for me also I am trying to push color but am only at the beginning stages of experimenting. Need to experiment much more; color is a completely different beast and it will probably take me some time to get comfortable with it (if ever!) The color files from the M8 are very pliable and can be pushed around a lot; so that is good. Best wishes for your color work, Furrukh Thanks for the link, Guy! wilfredo Posted February 18, 2007 Share #15 Posted February 18, 2007 Furrukh, Thanks for sharing. I remain very happy with my decision to purchase the M8. I only wish I had more time to shoot these days. I think the Leica crisis is pretty much over, the dust is starting to settle, and things are slowly falling into place. I count myself as one of the fortunate one's that was able to purchase the M8. I love the camera!
