doubice Posted October 30, 2011 Share #1 Posted October 30, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) After many years of faithful service, my Digilux 2 has kicked the bucket..... Yesterday it was working fine, today it will not power up. I tried various batteries (all fully charged), tried various SD cards (I know - should not make any difference....), tried powering up in shooting mode and play mode - nothing. It is dead. Has had a new sensor about 2 years ago and worked flawlessly until now. Anybody with a similar experience or ideas as to what may be the problem? A very sad Jan..... wda Posted October 30, 2011 Share #2 Posted October 30, 2011 This sad and rare news. Have you tried running the camera through the charger? I believe that is possible though naturally limiting. If not telephone Leica and see what they say.
kcchuan Posted October 31, 2011 Share #3 Posted October 31, 2011 I think the switch is faulty. Alvin

koray Posted October 31, 2011 Share #5 Posted October 31, 2011 Sorry to hear your trouble. There is an SMD fuse (rated 2A, I think) on the Digilux 2 board which may be blown out. It can happen randomly, possibly because of an out of spec battery voltage (or generally along with dying sensor). Leica will replace the board but will ask an arm and a leg for that. You might try your chances at a local electronics repair business but make sure they don't damage the camera while accessing the board. PM me if you are interested in selling it as-is. Good luck, Koray PS: see my reply to an earlier question: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/digital-forum/159495-digilux-2-not-working.html Here is the location of the fuse: After many years of faithful service, my Digilux 2 has kicked the bucket..... doubice Posted November 1, 2011 Author Share #6 Posted November 1, 2011 This sad and rare news. Have you tried running the camera through the charger? I believe that is possible though naturally limiting. If not telephone Leica and see what they say. Somehow I must have either never received or have lost that cable..... The thought entered my mind and that is how I found out that I didn't have it..... I think the switch is faulty. Alvin And what makes you think that? Have you had a similar problem with your Digilux 2? And - if so, how did it get fixed and by whom? Jan, Sad news indeed. I hope it turns out to be sleeping ... Pete. As in the Sleeping Beauty? I took your hint literally.... Secretly, when my wife was not looking, I planted a peck on the LCD....... I guess things worked differently in fairy tales........ Good luck, Koray Koray, Many thanks for that. I will most probably attempt the repair myself - my friends call me Dr. Fixit. The only problem I may have is a fine-enough soldering iron; with your diagragm it is probably be a good idea to take the board to an electronics repair shop and provide them with precise instructions. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.... I don't think I'd spend $400 to fix the Digilux. The Fuji X10 looks very interesting indeed! Best, Jan
koray Posted November 1, 2011 Share #9 Posted November 1, 2011 Excellent Jan, best to do it yourself. A local electronic shop will definitely have the correct fuse to replace it. If it helps, here are my Leica D2 disassembly instructions: Panasonic LC1 & Leica Digilux 2 disassembly guide Good luck! K. Koray, Many thanks for that. Koray, Thanks again - actually, I came upon those instructions a few months back and completely forgot about the website. Now, when I saw your 'handwritten' notes on the CB image, I remembered and realized that you were the 'culprit' behind that website! With Google's help I found the page and with your belated permission (pretty please) downloaded all the images yesterday. All I have to find now is the time to start the project.
