Summicron 35 Posted October 23, 2011 Share #1 Posted October 23, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I may have two left hands, and I am a bit lost this morning, I just can't open Lightroom 3.2. Here is the (translation of the) message I get on my PC screen, each time I click on the icon: "Impossible to open the Lightroom catalogue named "Lightroom 3 Catalogue" as it is opened in another application. Leave the other copy of Lightroom before any attempt to start." Select another catalogue Continue Close But I can't find this "other copy" of Lightroom, nor the "application" in which it is opened. "Select another catalogue" does not help. Maybe some Windows- and Lightroom- wizard on LUF will be able to help me find the solution. I'd be glad to see the pics on something larger than the M9's screen!

jaapv Posted October 23, 2011 Share #2 Posted October 23, 2011 First run registry cleaning software (f.i. PC Tools or CC Cleaner) if that does not work deinstall- clean register- reinstall.
stunsworth Posted October 23, 2011 Share #3 Posted October 23, 2011 Welcome to the forum. Look in the directory where the catalogue is kept and you may see a file with the same name as the catalogue but with an extension of '.lock'. Delete it (or move it somewhere else) and the catalogue should then open ok.

andybarton Posted October 23, 2011 Share #5 Posted October 23, 2011 Switch the PC off, then back on again. It must think that the catalogue is still open in an earlier version.
stunsworth Posted October 23, 2011 Share #6 Posted October 23, 2011 And then buy a Mac) Oh FFS, no wonder some Apple users have a bad reputation. And yes, I know you're going to say that you were only joking.

Andy, the '.lock' file is created when you open a catalogue. If Lightroom doesn't close down cleanly it's left in place, so the next time you open Lightroom it thinks the catalogue is still in use. If that's the case switching off and on - or cleaning the registry - won't make any difference. If I were the OP the first thing I'd do is look for that file. Summicron 35 Posted October 23, 2011 Author Share #9 Posted October 23, 2011 Thanks for your answers. Switching the PC off, then on, does not help off course. (First thing I have tried, before posting this thread.) I am going to try your other suggestions, and hope to find this d....d file or whatever you may call it. After two weeks with the M9, and almost the same time on LUF, I must say I'm delighted with both. Lightroom is great too, or at least it was until today! And now, back to work... stunsworth Posted October 23, 2011 Share #10 Posted October 23, 2011 The .lock file should be in the same directory as the catalogue - that ends in .lrcat

Summicron 35 Posted October 23, 2011 Author Share #12 Posted October 23, 2011 And it worked! Moving the" .lock" file elsewhere was the solution. Thanks again stunsworth. I knew from the begining that my first post on LUF would deal with some PC issue. Certainly not the last time I'll be asking for advice.
stunsworth Posted October 23, 2011 Share #13 Posted October 23, 2011 Glad to hear it worked.
