There's at least one lens company offering the same lens calibrated with RF coupling and without RF cam, the one without is 30% lower in price..

The lens I am familiar with is the 0.95 Hyperprime from SLR Magic in HK, and the non-rangefinder coupled version is substantially less expensive. Optically both lenses are identical, but the calibration and adjustments to allow RF coupling are complex and non-linear.

Could be something like the R only lens for the R series that only had cams for R metering.

 

Perhaps you could order them either way, with or without RF coupling. No coupling required for EVIL camera.

It will be autofocus with existing lenses. Yes AUTOFOCUS. After all Leica invented AF decades back.

 

Will be done by moving the sensor forward/backward.

 

Now that we established that, it is but a small step to see this is the R10 solution!

 

We will know in a few weeks.

 

Edit- Further thinking is Leica does not need a RF coupling or even a focus mount. All they need is a tube to hold the glass the correct distance from the sensor.

A little more thinking is that not only do they not need a RF coupling, they do not need a focusing mount at all, just a mount. Now there is a cost reduction the bean counters can drool over.
