Harry, there's no blocking of framelines or tunnel vision with the Walter RX Eyepiece - the view is exactly the same with or without it, due to the larger diameter of the lens/device. Very nice.

The review of the Walter RX Eyepiece is now live! Come check it out. In short, if you shoot with glasses or prefer not to because of the limitations, the Walter RX Eyepiece is the miracle you've been waiting for.

Thanks again, DN, for the information. Now it's on to your review.

Just picked mine up from the post office!

First impressions. Nice packaging, comes with the eyepiece, a little screwdriver for the safety screw and a microfiber cleaning cloth. Installation was a breeze (though you have to squeeze it over the rubber a little) and then tighten up the screw.

It rotates freely as you turn the camera betwixt portrait/landscape orientation. If you use a half case (as I do; a Luigi) then you might have to do some trimming or rotate the eyepiece manually. I'll have to fiddle with this more...

Clarity is excellent - focusing without glasses now is perfect! (I don't wear them when I shoot). As a test, I could read my screen through the M9 VF - something I can't do without glasses. Awesome.

Harry - I'll let you know about the M7/.85x shortly. The eyepiece is a bit large in diameter so it's not like some magnifiers where you get the feeling of looking through a tunnel. I was able to still see my 28mm framelines on the M9 though I do have to peek to the sides and corners a little.

So far, so good!

Got home to get mine today. Just a question about squeezing it over the rubber. Mine seems to be ever so far (maybe 1/16") from actually snugging up to the camera due to the tight fit over the rubber. Any suggestion on how to close up that last 1/16"? Did you turn the set screw to actually go into the rubber or behind it?

Sounds like maybe you should back out the screw a little bit; it could be catching. You'll know (feel) it when it slips over and is fully seated. Then snug up the screw. I'm thinking it goes into the rubber to hold tight.

Thanks. I had backed out the screw past the Walter eye piece inner edge, but do not seem to get it to seat flush with body. Tried it a second time before your reply (Thanks by the way) and it seated better, but still leaves a very small gap between eye piece and body. Does that sound right? I have now set the screw and will try to see if I can nail my shots better.

I think it's probably fine. I'll double-check mine when I get home again. As long as it feels "fully seated" then it likely is. As long as it's straight/even, you're good.

DN, thank you for all of your research and posting the helpful review!

When I started this thread, I was hoping to eventually learn just the sort of useful information you have provided before actually plunking down my cash. I will now order with confidence from the nice guy who wrote me back from South Africa. I look forward to enjoying the full brightness of my M9 viewfinder.

Very welcome, Peter!

I just added an image that demonstrates the accuracy somewhat. Hardly a scientific test, but works for me...

Basically able to focus a Summilux-M 50mm f/1,4 ASPH wide open on the screen at 3' where the DoF is 2mm accurately enough to see clear pixels on the LCD.

In another test, I focused on the stem of a leaf with an angled background to see if there was any front/back focus in the lens, because of the eyepiece, etc. and I didn't even need the background... Focus was nailed right on the stem.

So I can conclude that either the lens, body and vision are all in relatively darn good alignment - or some things are off and fixed by others enough that it's just the same. In the end; perfect focus.

I was out in 35-40 degree weather and using my Walter eyepiece for the first time outdoors and it appeared to be fogged up when viewing through it. I was using a 21mm lens and the viewfinder was not fogged up.

Any suggestions to eliminate this problem on the eye piece?

Hmm, interesting. I haven't experienced this yet. Was the gear acclimated to the cold? So a warm body (eye) fogged it?

The equipment was in the cold about 30-45 minutes before taking shots and before that it was in a cold vehicle for hours. I was warmer than the M9, but due to the wind I did not feel very warm. But the eye piece was fogged when I looked through it for the first time, this I had just put my eye to it for 5 seconds.

Recieved mine yesterday, 1 week shipping from SA, to Norway. I have strong astigmatism, I was never happy with diopters (tried many from -1 to -2,5), enlargers, or shooting with glasses.

I have just tried it for 1 day, but I am very happy with it optically, based on standard optical prescription for my glasses/left eye shooting, disregarding the built in -0,5 in finder.

The fastening screw is very small, I struggled a bit to find the right way to fit it tight, but it now seems ok, although I am a bit afraid of losing it, it is an expensive item.

But I am hopeful it solves my quest for a good solution to optical correction.

I have not yet tried it in real cold/humid environments, so I cannot comment on the problems discussed above.

Kindly comment after you have had a chance to use the eye piece in your current cold climate.

I got mine last weekend but have not been able to test it because of illness. If possible I will go out this weekend and see how well it works and if cold weather is an issues. I'm also curious about this in tropical conditions, coming out of an air-conditioned environment into tropical heat. I will be traveling to SE Asia in February next year.
