Obiedobie Posted October 19, 2011 Share #1 Posted October 19, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi! I am new to the forum and a new owner of a M3 and a few IIIf cameras. I consider myself a user and not a collector and this hood says 1.2/50 instead of 1:2/50. It fits my Summicron 50mm f2.0 lens. Is this a collectable? I take care of my equipment but they occasionally get marked up and so I don't want to use this hood if it is highly collectable. Thanks
Advertisement Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 Hi Obiedobie, Take a look here IR00DA Lens Hood with misprint. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
luigi bertolotti Posted October 19, 2011 Share #2 Posted October 19, 2011 Could you post a picture of it ? IROOA has a number of lenses' engravings... from what you wrote , seems that one dot is missing in the "1:2/50" : small errors of this kind are indeed uncommon, but don't add a significant value to an item, expecially if it is a common one like this hood. dkCambridgeshire Posted October 20, 2011 Share #4 Posted October 20, 2011 A postage stamp with a similar misprint would probably be very collectable. Minor accidental engraving omissions on Leica accessories might be interesting curios but IMO they are not sufficiently significant to be eminently collectable or to command a high premium price. However, some verbose dealers, especially on Ebay, might try and sell it at a high premium and claim that it is a rare or super rare piece - hoping that a buyer might be swayed. By itself, the hood would be very unlikely to be listed as a single lot by an auctioneer ... and that is a better test of whether an item is worthy of being described as a very desirable collectable. dunk
luigi bertolotti Posted October 20, 2011 Share #5 Posted October 20, 2011 .... or you could try to sell it as a hood for the Noctilux 1.2/50 (1,2 indeed...) IT is really rare and very costly.... (one was put for sale at 4299 US$ - shipment included... *Very Rare* Leica Hood for Noctilux-M 50/1.2 50mm f/1.2 Lens *Very Nice* #12503 | eBay)

Obiedobie Posted October 23, 2011 Author Share #9 Posted October 23, 2011 Is it freudian that the title of the thread is itself mis spelt?:-) Gerry It took me 5 minutes to see the typo.
