Ronan Posted October 17, 2011 Share #21 Posted October 17, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Are you receiving some kind of compensation for wasting your time AND asking for private information not needed for that type of purchase? Especially when the info you gave is correct to start with... How much are you spending anyway? If its a couple thousand i can understand.
Advertisement Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 Hi Ronan, Take a look here Dale Photographic - dodgy?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!

jpattison Posted October 18, 2011 Share #24 Posted October 18, 2011 I have bought several cameras and enlargers from Dales over the last 34 years: Large Format, Medium and Leicas. A very friendly and helpful staff, I used to pop in for a chat when I worked near Leeds. They are a professional dealer selling mainly to pros in the north of England, and now worldwide, and I can highly recommend them. John
spylaw4 Posted October 18, 2011 Share #25 Posted October 18, 2011 Unable to check UK Credit card validity in the UK - rubbish! At Red Dot we do it all the time. Doesn't mean they're dodgy though - probably don't have the software to do it or thier bank doesn't give them it.
opho.to Posted October 18, 2011 Author Share #26 Posted October 18, 2011 All sorted! They just wanted to know whether I wanted them to send it today, or give it a good clean beforehand, which would take an extra day or so. Compensation? That's a new one to me. I'm not sure my time is worth that much anyway! Thanks everyone!
stunsworth Posted October 18, 2011 Share #27 Posted October 18, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Unable to check UK Credit card validity in the UK - rubbish! At Red Dot we do it all the time I'm sure Dale do too, but they were saying that the problem was caused by the billing address not being the same as the shipping address. andybarton Posted October 18, 2011 Share #28 Posted October 18, 2011 I would expect ANY vendor to refuse a card, or demand more information, if the two addresses didn't match. I sometimes have problems getting stuff delivered to the Office (where I can guarantee someone being available to sign for a package), but I've never been asked for my driving licence details. Dale were just being cautious - as they should be these days.
pgk Posted October 18, 2011 Share #29 Posted October 18, 2011 They said my card address did not match the address I gave when I ordered online - which is odd, because it normally does, and I definitely gave the correct address. I may be over cautious but if I was told this I would be checking with my card issuer to ensure that nothing was amiss - so far my family has had 3 attempts at using cards illicitly with details obtained without the card holders having any idea where or when (although in at least one case we are suspicious that an innocent and honest 'secure' web site may well have been the target and the details may just have been extracted by a third party). earleygallery Posted October 18, 2011 Share #32 Posted October 18, 2011 Where there's blame, there's a claim!! Someone stalled at the traffic lights in front of me this morning, made me 2 mins late. I should have demanded compensation in that instance too.
farnz Posted October 19, 2011 Share #33 Posted October 19, 2011 Where there's blame, there's a claim!! Someone stalled at the traffic lights in front of me this morning, made me 2 mins late. I should have demanded compensation in that instance too. It was me and I should be claiming compensation for emotional distress caused by the sound of your tooting. Oh, and for potential future loss of hearing caused by the amplitude and proximity of your car's horn. Now where did I put the phone numbers for 'Vulture Lawyers For You' and 'Worldwide Luxury Villas For The Suddenly Wealthy' ... ? Pete.
D&A Posted October 19, 2011 Share #34 Posted October 19, 2011 >>>It was me and I should be claiming compensation for emotional distress caused by the sound of your tooting. Oh, and for potential future loss of hearing caused by the amplitude and proximity of your car's horn.<<< Pete. Yes, but it was potential hearing lost, not your eyesight (as would aptly be pointed out by his lawyers in response)....so your trying to get an M9-P in return as compensation for your loss, won't work. farnz Posted October 19, 2011 Share #35 Posted October 19, 2011 Where did mention of an M9-P come from? I'd be attampting to gain compensation in the form of a luxury villa! Pete. (Pardon ... ?)

algrove Posted October 20, 2011 Share #37 Posted October 20, 2011 I know it sounds like I'm being silly, but I don't mind the time or effort it's taking. What's a day or two in the scheme of things. It's more that I'm always really careful about keeping my private details, well, private, so this goes against the grain. Your post was very alarming to me at first and before reading your actual post. There is a very good Leica dealer in Florida USA called Dale also. Just to set the record straight for them since I buy from Dale USA without problems such as yours.
