Dougg Posted October 15, 2011 Share #3 Posted October 15, 2011 No lenses = No Camera for me Good luck with both camera and lens... There are other lenses out there though, to be adapted. For instance I'll be trying out a Pentax 55mm on mine tomorrow, having prevously used 45, 100, 165, and 200mm on it. Though not Leica, some are very very good especially in the mid apertures. Constable Posted October 15, 2011 Author Share #4 Posted October 15, 2011 Guess I'm lucky. I've got the four lenses plus two of the four are in stock at my local dealer. Ed
JMacD Posted October 15, 2011 Share #5 Posted October 15, 2011 Perhaps it is quiet here because many users of S2 systems have found a newer forum. A much more active forum for S2 users is over on the Red Dot Forum. More news, more discussion by owners. Its designation of posts as being from an owner is helpful. Note that the first response to your question was posted by a non user. Have you checked it out? This is the first post I have made here since Red dot started. I have posted many time there. Both are worth following, but the S2 volume is on Red Dot. http://www.reddotforum.com/forumdisplay.php/1-Leica-S-System Also general news of Leica http://www.reddotforum.com/content.php

arminw Posted October 15, 2011 Share #8 Posted October 15, 2011 Yes I can only confirm the red dot forum is the one to use if your are a S2 owner . I am not sure why it's not happening here , but it seems over there are a lot less bitchy comments.
GMB Posted October 15, 2011 Share #9 Posted October 15, 2011 I am not sure why it's not happening here , but it seems over there are a lot less bitchy comments. That may very well be it:o BTW, the German S2 forum is almost completely dead
albertknappmd Posted October 16, 2011 Share #10 Posted October 16, 2011 Red dot is indeed active and fun to use....:)
glenerrolrd Posted October 16, 2011 Share #11 Posted October 16, 2011 Another thumbs up for RED DOT FORUM. David and Josh from Dale often provide original content based on customer requests for the S2 . For example they have a nice test showing that the Leica R Telyt system can be converted to work on the S2 . Stop by it has a nice neighborhood feel to it. Dougg Posted October 17, 2011 Share #12 Posted October 17, 2011 Where is everyone? Is it possible that we are all happy with our S2s and just out there using them? Ed I was out there using mine on Saturday for some record shots at a demolition site, and at the farmers' market. Nothing really good, but it was a reasonable real-world test of the Pentax 55mm on it. Last of the three P67 55mm versions, quite sharp, nice OOF backgrounds, notable veiling flare (had a filter on and no hood) in the direction of the sun. Slight red/green CA seen in pixel peeping. I'm pleased that manual visual focus on the standard screen is easy and effective, plus the focus confirmation light at the right in the VF is helpful. I get the impression there have not been very many S2 cameras sold yet... fewer than 1000 in the US market, for one? Far overshadowed by the M9 sales... I guess if there's not much discussion, we're generally snapping away happily doing our own things...
tom0511 Posted October 17, 2011 Share #13 Posted October 17, 2011 I think there are much more S2 sold than expected in the beginning. I also believe that the S2 and the 4 lenses available do work that good now, that there is little reason for discussion. I can also speak about mine and it works very well so far, precise AF, color balance and expsoure is spot on , all 4 lenses seem to work just fine - so right now no reasons to complain. (I hope it will not change after I have written these lines)
Dougg Posted October 18, 2011 Share #14 Posted October 18, 2011 I'm glad if the S2 has sold more than originally expected, but sad that probably doesn't mean adjusting the price downward to reflect a different amortization. Healthy sales should contribute to an expanding system. I'll note that the S2 is more noticeable to others than an M8 or M9. At the Saturday farmers' market I approached the booth of an inventive guy who makes decorative rotating mobiles and branching out into cast plastic robot-like figures. He was speaking with a non-vendor who makes jewelry with local stones like blue agates, and this guy right away commented that with a camera like that I must make great pics, or something like that. I nodded and turned my attention to the mobile guy. And then a couple booths away was another friend who sells small framed prints of local landscapes with emphasis on historic barns. He was talking with another photographer from out of town, and exclaimed to him that I still used film, amazing as that might seem, joking around. Then he looked closer at what I was carrying and said "that's a Pentax lens". "yeah" (it says Pentax 67 right on the front of the focusing ring). And he said, "...but, Leica. And medium format!" Then he reached over and turned the camera so he could see the back. "Hah! I was wrong about the film" he said. I've visited his booth several times before carrying an M8 with no comment at all.
