The serial number is : 2779381 The lens on it is a Voigtländer Nokton 50/1.1 Please, if someone ever sees it being offered online, contact me !!! I have sent an email to the Leica importer in Belgium (I'm from Belgium), I hope he will inform Leica AG or give me coordinates where to go to to inform Leica (in case of future repairs). I didn't find a direct email adress from Leica itself... The theft was near to Benicassim, province of Castellon, very known for its robberies... The government admits unemployment for the under 30 males is like 25%. I got robbed on the street in Barcelona 2 years ago while walking right on a big boulevard 3 blocks from the Segrada Familia Church. The SOB spit chocolate all over my head and shirt (which obviously did not realize until it was too late) and then proceeded to pour water all over me to "help" with the bird shit. When I raised my arms in protest he grabbed my shoulder bag (no valuable camera in it just a P&S and took off. Went to one of 20 police stations only to find about 200 other people who had been robbed that afternoon. Cops said he only wanted cash and I did not have to call credit card companies. A local woman overheard that and told me to use one of the phones that lined the wall with MS, Visa Amex, Discover and consulate phone numbers. When I called Visa the guy asked me where it happened. After telling him he told me that 2 out of 3 card losses where from Barcelona. The criminals in Spain get off except for a fine which they out and steal more in order to pay the fine. Ingrid Posted October 10, 2011 Author Share #9 Posted October 10, 2011 It was a something similar like what happened to you in Barcelona ; our tire was punctured at a gas station, so after 2-3 km driving we had to stop with flat tyre. After some minutes some guys stopped to "help", but since I am in spain very often, I knew that this was to rob us.. we refused their help and tried to send them away, I kept an eye on our stuff all the time. They knew we understood what was going on so they got a little bit agressive, but after some discussion, they went away. I was relieved because at that time we still had everything ! We started to replace the flat tyre, and then after a few minutes we saw that my handbag was stolen - they must have left 1 person behind which stole it whilst we were busy doing the repair... (since their car had left, I thought everything was safe again and didn't pay attention anymore, stupid...) When the police was at the scene, they got another call from 30km further down the road, the same car, other tourists... The typical tourist trap - and they get so clever that even when you know these things are possible, they still are smarter/faster than you. They just want money, the police said, most likely the bag will be thrown away with everything in it... just imagine, an M7 somewhere thrown away. I still am sick of it.. I didn't encounter any trouble. I have been to Spain many times, most recently a few weeks ago, and would not count it more or less dangerous than any other European country. It's not right to write off a whole nation based upon the activities of the thieves in one city. By that token you would write off the whole of the UK because of the riots in London this Summer. Insure. Carry only what you can manage easily, and don't mind losing. Keep your wits about you. Don't dress, behave or look like an easy target. In tourist areas remember the old adage. The best way to avoid being bitten by a mosquito is to wear repellent - and to stand beside someone who hasn't... Harsh but true. The problem it's not Spain, it's lack of attention, there and everywhere, and holidays are full of distress moments Your M7 can be traced, so keep an eye to CASH CONVERTERS and the Leica dealers in Spain that carry second hand cameras as they can see it, and don't worry they don't pay them. plasticman Posted October 10, 2011 Share #14 Posted October 10, 2011 Particularly in the current economic climate there will almost inevitably be an overall increase in this sort of opportunistic crime, and it's always distressing wherever and whenever it happens. But to write-off one of the most beautiful and welcoming countries in the world on the basis of "I know someone who was once robbed there" is absolutely amazing to me. How does one live with that attitude? I may hesitate to get recruited by a Mexican drug cartel at the moment, considering the long-term career prospects. But decide you are not going to travel to Spain?? I'm speechless. Incidentally, the trick about spilling sauce on a person's jacket has become more common here in Stockholm - the papers have warned about it several times over the summer. So don't come here either! In general i feel much safer than in any other big city i visited before. Seems some people are ASKING for trouble sometimes. Those places are notorious for theft (if you are a tourist), it amazes me people deny that because 'its a beautiful place'...
