One I used in the Seventies and can't remember how I disposed of it but I remember it sucked even for newspaper reproduction. The next I got was with the intention of converting it to an M body. The experience was an affirmation of my mechanical incompetence. It's in the bin. Now I have one 'native' on its Canon 7s body and another on its way advertized as being 'properly converted' to focus correctly on an M9. (I will be darned surprised if that is true). Â As soon as I find a subject that is attractive enough to overwhelm y'all with her beauty so to obscure the character of the Canon 50mm f/.95 I will post a page. Ya know, the later part is the most difficult. Â And of course, the Canon must be determined to be $10,000 inferior to the Noctilux. I look forward to the aesthetic-metric qualities that make that so, especially as they are evinced on the Web, then later in large prints. Â BTW - The Voitlander 25mn f/.95 is one awesome lens - sharp as heck, focuses very close, too, but unfortunately I use it on a Pana G1 which has a sensor which is disappointing after using an M9, but it is still superior to Panas stock lens. Â Concerning finding a model - I thought I found one last night - the bar tender at a very nice pub here in town - nothing but foreign and micro-brewery beers. At first I thought nothing of her, but as the night went on she got better looking. I think it was eyeball-bokeh at work. We call that Beer Goggles. Â Uhm... let's wait for tests... APS is larger than 4/3 and maybe doesn't cover the area... by sure , in case it could be intriguing... an about 35mm equiv. at f 0,95 ; of course, it won't fit the GXRM... flange distance doesn't match. I just ran outside and shot this at f/.95. It is a 100% (actual pixels) sample at minimum focusing distance. Â This is the whole file. Â Just snapshots. Wide open it is totally respectable and closed down at f4 is simply rivals my Lux asph. Unbelievable, yes, but true. Â I will soon print and post some examples. Unfortunately, it does not put up the 50mm frame. Gaffers tape will do until I find a fix. Â Quickly took a picture out back, at F/.95, minimum distance. Dew on the flowers accounts for little transparnt dots.. Couldn't wait for garden to dry. M9 focal length menu set manually - had to accept Noctilux 1.1 setting. I'm pretty shakey today. Did not use tripod. Â Full frame here: Â Actual pixels from flower upon which I focused: Â It is too light now to shoot outside of shadow, but the pictures I tried at infinity were unacceptably soft, those at 5' were just OK. But they were all overexposed because I forced f/.95. More appropriate tests later. Â It ain't no Noxtilux! And if this is The Dream Lens, then I'm going to have to find a filter for my dreams. treeplanter Posted October 12, 2011 Share #20 Â Posted October 12, 2011 The Canon 50/0.95 is one lens where it is absolutely essential that the lens be calibrated to a certain camera body. I have two such lenses, one M-mount and one for the Canon 7. Ken Ruth did the M-mount conversion. When mounted to a M film camera, the central 1/3rd of the image is actually surprisingly sharp. Outward from there the image gradually softens. Bokeh can be wild, which I personally like. It can flare horribly if there's a strong light source in the picture. It's not an everyday carry-around lens, too big and bulky for that, but for low-light or special effects, it's my go-to lens. Â Jim B. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
