gravastar Posted October 1, 2011 Share #2 Posted October 1, 2011 Can anyone tell me for sure whether the #14471 hand grip wiil fit the M9? Thank you. The #14471 I had on the M8 does fit my M9. However I'd wait for confirmation from other people just to be safe. The reason I say this is because I also have a MD Grip from Photo Equip and their initial batch were a good fit on the M8 but a very tight fit on the M9. So there seems to be a small dimensional difference between the M8 and M9 base plates. In the case of the MD grip it's the external dimensions of the baseplate that matters, whereas with the Leica grips it's the internal dimensions. So there may be no problem. - Let's see what other people say. ETA: As far as I can tell the only difference between the various 144** series of grips is the finish. The 14471 is black anodised whereas the 14486 for the M8.2/M9 is black paint. My guess is the anodising is thinner than the paint so there shouldn't be a problem with the 14471 on the M9 except the finishes won't match. See here. Bob. algrove Posted October 2, 2011 Share #5 Posted October 2, 2011 I don't know if you use a tripod or any RRS items, but the RRS grip for the M9 is just fantastic. It's base is the length of the grip and makes for a very nice level base and it's light weigh too. For me the RRS grip is way better than the Leica grip that I now do not use. You might also like to look at the MD grip. If you do think about getting the MD check/ask if it's OK with the M9. Later batches are probably one size fits all. What's good about the MD is the tripod mounting is on the lens axis. Bob.
billib Posted October 2, 2011 Share #8 Posted October 2, 2011 Were do I find a RRS grip? There is no Leica hand grip on their website...?Cat # BM9B-L Set $198 (USA) It replaces the Bottom Plate of an M8 or M9.I have the Vertical attachment removed. The Ball Head works nicely vertically. However, if I was going to set up a vertical shot ahead of time, then I'd reattach it. If you call them on the phone they'er extremely helpful. RRS also has a less expensive Quick Release Camera Attachment Plate that DOESN'T REPLACE the Leica's bottom plate and also has a Grip. Welcome, dear visitor! AlanJW Posted October 2, 2011 Share #9 Posted October 2, 2011 +1 for RRS grip - but try putting some griptac on it. It is very smooth and my preference is for something more grippy, so a bit of griptac solves that. YMMV.
Shade Posted October 2, 2011 Share #10 Posted October 2, 2011 Yeah the M8 and M9 base plates are exactly the same. The RRS Grip is awesome, but does add an extra weight to it though - so you really should consider it.

It is very smooth and my preference is for something more grippy, so a bit of griptac solves that. YMMV. On my M9 the RRS grip fits very snugly. So much so that I has to push a bit on the body to get the lever to close fully, but it has loosened up a small amount after 6 months of use. As to the weigh of it, I don't notice it even when I use my M9 with a leather carry strap from Gordy I believe. IMHO,if you use a tripod, this is one base to seriously consider. Washington Posted October 3, 2011 Share #12 Posted October 3, 2011 After busting the bottom tab retainer…. I use RRS stuff to hold my camera together. I’ve updated to a carbon-fiber rod…. but don’t tell anyone because I don’t want this mistaken for a high-end bicycle. Welcome, dear visitor! IMHO,if you use a tripod, this is one base to seriously consider. Perhaps I'm just weak hahaha - but yes I would agree with you, if you're a tripod person, the RRS Grip does infact work extremely well. Heck even if it's not for tripod usage, the grip itself is much more comfortable to hold than the Leica's grip. However again - to me - the RRS grip does add an extra heft to it which I personally dislike.

Washington Posted October 3, 2011 Share #16 Posted October 3, 2011 focalplane: I think when I got the Leica bottom-grip some time ago it was for an M-8 I use a 9. but I ended up with an RRS bottom with grip and left side dovetail flash bracket and it’s GREAT! carlmuck Posted October 4, 2011 Share #17 Posted October 4, 2011 Wrong, the M8 and M9 are not, thats NOT compatible. Saying it twice doesn't make it true. The M8 and M9 baseplates are interchangeable.

How do you attach a flash to the Left Side Dovetail Bracket? Didn't know it was a Flash Bracket as well. Don't see anything in their catalog.
hoppyman Posted October 4, 2011 Share #20 Posted October 4, 2011 I have a left over Handgrip M8. That one was made in black chrome and silver. It does fit my M9. It is a comparatively loose fit on M8 and M9 compared to my Really Right Stuff replacement baseplate. The new versions made for the M8.2 and M9 differ in finish (black paint, silver and steel gray) to match the later cameras.
