earleygallery Posted September 30, 2011 Share #2 Â Posted September 30, 2011 The classic trio for M is 35/50/90 but I also like something wider like a 24.

earleygallery Posted September 30, 2011 Share #4 Â Posted September 30, 2011 Not really no, such a wide lens has quite limited application.
Peter H Posted September 30, 2011 Share #5 Â Posted September 30, 2011 28, 50, 90. Â Used to be 35 rather than 28, but the 28 Summicron has beguiled me.
trylab Posted September 30, 2011 Share #6 Â Posted September 30, 2011 For me its 21 (lux) 35 (nokton 1,2) and 75 (cron), and thats perfect.
digbyhp Posted September 30, 2011 Share #7 Â Posted September 30, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Don't get rid of the 40mm, you'll regret it. So how 'bout 24/40/75.
smkoush Posted October 1, 2011 Share #8 Â Posted October 1, 2011 How about 28/35/50? At least this is what I'm aiming for (need the 35 to complete the set).
StephenPatterson Posted October 1, 2011 Share #9 Â Posted October 1, 2011 With external finder...21/50/90 W/O external finder...50/90 Â With an M3 you would need an external VF for a 35, and I hate changing them, so if I needed wide I would just go 21 or 24 as both are covered with the excellent 21mm Leica ext. VF.
Ellie Posted October 1, 2011 Share #10 Â Posted October 1, 2011 I'd say it depends on what and where you'd like to take photos. I'm myself thinking of three lenses right now for my purpose (I only have the Elmarit 28 at the moment). Â Elmarit 28 - General purpose use. Â Summilux 21 - Available light interior documentation. Â Elmar 24 - For highly detailed B&W shots of old buildings/environments. Â -- Â For the file type I'd say uncompressed jpeg seems to be more universal, at least when asking the local printing services here.
NZDavid Posted October 1, 2011 Share #11 Â Posted October 1, 2011 Using an external finder is no hassle at all. 24, 35, 50. But 90 can also come in very handy for portraits and details. And the 135 is a beautiful lens but more special purpose. It all depends what you're shooting!
imperfiction Posted October 1, 2011 Share #12 Â Posted October 1, 2011 I've currently got quite a range which I am thinking of downsizing because it doesn't get used up. In particular I have a CV 35 1.2, 40 C Summicron, 75 Summicron, 75 Summilux and 90 Elmarit. Â The 90 doesn't get used at all by me so that one will go, the CV is a great lens but not very compact (a 35 Leica Summilux is much better in this respect). The 40 C is a fantastic lens which especially on my spare M8 makes for a great lens because it is close to the standard 50 mm. The 75s are a bit redundant and I don't know what to do with those yet in terms of keeping one (and which one) or keeping both (hard to justify the expense really). Â I have found that just two lenses would suffice my needs absolutely - I recently shot a wedding in Miami with the 75 Summilux and the 35 CV - one married to my M8 and the other to my M9 (I changed the lenses between the cameras on a couple of occasions) and that worked like a charm. Wide Angle? wouldn't really use it often personally. 90 mm lenses? too bulky (especially when shooting a 13-hour wedding). And the size is also one of the shortcomings of the 75 Summilux to my mind. smdavey Posted October 1, 2011 Author Share #13 Â Posted October 1, 2011 Wow... thanks for the replies)) Â i got rid of my 90 elmar because it just felt wrong on the M3 and i never used it. Â i was thinking i would like a really wide angle lens. seems people love or dislike them shall we say. Â but. like i said. i have the 40 and the 50 now. so was thinking would be better to get rid of the 40 to get wide angle(15-21 something around there). then later on get a 75...... Â ok, and at process, i should get uncompressed jpegs? which i can use in lightroom. Â many thanks all steve

bill Posted October 1, 2011 Share #15  Posted October 1, 2011 35mm Summaron 2.8 50mm DR Summicron 90mm Collapsible Elmar  All "match" the body and the first two share an IROOA  Learn to use the 90, not to pull things closer but to isolate the subject. It will reward you.  Regards,  Bill

bpalme Posted October 1, 2011 Share #19 Â Posted October 1, 2011 35/50/90 + an ultrawide. For me 15 or 18 I pretty much only use that wide during travel for neat architectural shots.
