Pecole Posted September 29, 2011 Share #1 Posted September 29, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Yesterday, when rummaging in my - most blocked up - garage, I found by chance, in the bottom of a cardboard box, a paper holder containing bits of a film strip. These bits seemed holding together, but after bending, they separated easily and looked intact. The holder was marked "Kodacolor II/SL2/2.8-60/May 1977". I immediately scanned the seven bits of 4 negatives each, and was stunned by the quality of the result. So, these strips had remained 34 years packed without any protection - not even the transparent film strip holders in which each bit is normally presented by the labos -, had moved twice (from Belgium to Portugal in 1993, and then from Alentejo to Algarve in 2007), had been kept in a not-conditioned garage for four years and were still usable! I am an exclusive digital user for seven years now, but I wonder if the pixels stored in my back-up hard disks will be comparable in 2045 to these wonderful "silver" things Kodak offered us. Just for the fun, I publish hereunder four of the scanned photos, each in the orginal, no-correction state coming from the Epson scanner, and with its duplicate going out of Photoshop automatic correction. Not much difference!
