Studio58 Posted September 29, 2011 Share #5 Posted September 29, 2011 thanks for taking the trouble to share your collection. How long ago did you start putting it together ? Was it done over a long period ? Do you use it much ?
PhilNUK Posted September 29, 2011 Author Share #6 Posted September 29, 2011 Cheers for the comments guys I inherited it all from my father who bought everything over the years. He has kept all of the hand written paper receipts and documentation for everything... He religiously used to keep everything clean and functioning but since he passed away in 2002 I really haven't had much chance to use it... My own fault really, but the purchase of a digital slr probably didn't help matters... I am currently looking at getting it all insured so I can enjoy it fully, and then re-familiarise myself with it all.... To be honest I don't know where to start! (that statement has probably made everyone cringe!!) but I really want to appreciate it fully! At a glance can anyone see anything amongst the collection that stands out as a quality item? Talking lenses really.... Just want to appreciate it as much as possible and do my fathers years of collecting some justice!

I would (but I'm a heretic) buy a used or cheap new Bessa to use daily with your lenses.. Which is what I have with my M3. The Sony NEX 3,5 (and soon to be) 7 offer the best value for money if you want to take digital pics with your Leica lenses and the new Ricoh digital module is a real challenge to the M8. Oh, a nice pic of the III would be good Regards, David

octo Posted September 29, 2011 Share #12 Posted September 29, 2011 cheers guys.... Yeah looking forward to experimenting... Going to see if there is a specialist in the North West of England who could service it all.... What kind of prices are we talking for that? I only know Malcolm Taylor, in Wales: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-blog/leica-repair-specialists/ His practical knowledge is impressive. I have always been happy with his work. Enjoy your collection. Before you send the whole lot out, though, it would be a good idea to run a B&W and a colour film through it which could help pinpointing potential problems. I daresay that it looks as though your late father must have taken pretty good care of it, so it will probably work just fine, you know: if it works, don't fix it kind of thing, IMHO, of course.
