Hi guys,

I was just perusing the igavel Leica collection when I came across this black M3 and lens kit below and I noticed that the lens head comes away from the body.

I have a 90mm Elmarit that does this pretty easily but I wasn't aware that the 50mm Summicron did it too.

Can some one tell me if my own lens is the same as the black one in this respect and how do you unscrew the head, do you remove the lens from the camera?

I've never tried to seperate the head from the body and don't want to force it just in case, I'm just curious as I have no intention of using this the feature.

The lens is from 1968, I think, and has the serial number 2182***

Thanks

Tony

It unscrews CC and it will be VERY tight if never done before and I doubt this has. It makes a pretty decent enlarging lens for larger prints if you can find the proper adapter to 39mm screw, but the next version was better.

Goes on a copy stand with focoslide. The notches on the aperture ring are to position an extension for aperture adjustment when on an enlarger or copy stand. Do not buy the one for 2.8 Elmar.

Looks as if the flash terminals were replaced with M4 ones. Good for user, bad for collector value.

This camera is way to much money to be used and not clean enough for collector. I would not buy it for more than $2000 and that is questionable.

I have some original sync terminals if you want to convert back. Leitz flash cords are scarce as hens teeth, but they never fall off the camera. Send PM

How close jc and do you just put the UOORF on the camera and then the lens head to the UOORF?

The Summicron 50 head + SOMKY + UOORF focuses from 88 to 48 cm (19" - 1:7.5 ratio on 24x36) : some pictures explain better than words... ;)

SOMKY is the "goggle" unit, UOORF the intermediate ring (without it, you can mount on SOMKY collapsible 50s like Elmar)

When assembled, the combo, not surprisingly, resembles a lot the Summicron 50 Dual Range, which optically provides exactly the same nearest focusing (see under)

It's a very enjoyable and light combo for "almost - macro"... most of the gear of mine I have posted in the Forum has been taken with it on my M8 (not these, of course... Elmar 90 3 elements... ;))

No... they made (in few numbers) a near focusing device for the Elmar 90 on LTM (OMIFO), but probably 90mm was considered too critical for RF focusing at short distances (until the intro of the today's Elmar 90 Macro...) ; the Elmarit 90 lenshead is for Visoflex based configurations (with or without bellows... many possibilities vith various rings like OTZFO etc...)

Quite surprising, this statement by "specialist in Leica" Collectcamera (your link)! this "rare" close-focus 9cm Elmar is only a lens head mounted on a COOED ramp. Nothing rare indeed!

You're right...describing it as a "special" Elmar is quite misleading...; anyway it looks fine... has a nice s/n... price asked not stellar...
