Do you have "Garage Sales" in Montreal? In Australia they are held normally on a Saturday morning (sometimes Sunday) at residential homes and are sometimes run by the families of deceased relations, to sell off their unwanted possessions. "Car Boot Sales" are another potential source. Check your local newspaper. ;)

We do, all the time. I have never seen anything good. It's just overpriced junk for a lack of a better term :p

Yes, a lot of the time it is. But, if you go to them regularly (and early), you can get the occasional prize. Let's forget brands other than Leica. (Sorry, I can't forget the working Nikon S2 + 1.4 for A$15). OK: Leica 3C + 50/3.5 Elmar $30; Leica 3C + 50/3.5 Elmar $50. But, you've got to be there early!!:eek:

Hi David, I was talking to a friend about the biggest purchase item we have got away with - and his was a huge motor boat - one that sleeps an entire family etc. He had one and replaced it - his wife still has no idea. That's takes the bakery. My partner is not techno savy and so all Leicas look the same. I pay for them out of my own money - but that's not the point - one still goes through the whole justification process. Gosh, I wish she would just give me one for a gift - problem solved - LOL!!!! :D:D

But Karina: I hate to say this: being female you win "discussions" every time anyway. I pointed this out to my wife once and she said " no I don't " which proved my point. In my domestic bliss, we have a traditional family arrangement, so there is no real thing as "my own money" which is how the thread got started.

LOL! Great thread. Thank god my wife isn´t interested in my camera stuff and won´t recognize a new Leica anyway. On the other hand I prefer not to tell her so I can spare her the (unjustified) worries about money.

G.A.S. is a serious desease and I am a long time sufferer. Switching over to Leica didn´t make it any better. United we stand, divided we fall... ;)

Well for the $300 I spent I got a visoflex III with prism and 65 f 3.5 elmar, a NOOKY, a bellows, a 135 f4.5 Tessar for 6x9 format, a Goerz Dagor in Linhof board, a C-Simlar collapsible elmar copy and a Brownie model 2 stereo camera.

It turns out that the Brownie is one of the few rare Kodak cameras, having been one of 4000 made between 1905 and 1910... And it is one of the first batch made between. 1905 and'06. One web authority values it at $450-550... All I need to do now is find a camera nut who is begging fo the stereo Brownie and then it's game set and match... But I would really like a IIIF RDST with an Elmar to go with my NOOKY... But I could sell the NOOKY....

(The next joke is only funny to people over the age of 50 who grew up watching 1960s British TV Game shows)

Should I keep the NOOKY or shop with the box.

David, 300$ sounds like a steal to me, well done! Keep the NOOKY and sell of the non-Leica stuff on Ebay. In the end you might have the Leica goodies for free. Good for reasoning with the wife too, maybe you can make her believe that it is not about GAS but making some extra money! :D
