Ronan Posted September 17, 2011 Share #1 Â Posted September 17, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am considering a Leica M telephoto lens for my M6 Classic (if it ever comes back...). Â Personally, i carried my Nikon 70-200 2.8 VR everywhere because i loved the 150-200 end of it. Â Now, i RARELY find myself needing more than 50, but i would love the option to stick a longer reaching lens on my M6 when/if needed. Â #1 Cheap, it won't be my primary or secondary lens (it's more of a, once in a little while...). #2 I'm looking at 135mm or around. #3 Speed... not that great a deal, i have never shot low light + telephoto. 2.8 is ok, heck even 4.0... Â Now my eyesight is quite... well it sucks. Prescription glasses all the time. I would think i would 'need' goggles with the telephoto? (Personal experience would be quite welcomed). Â I have looked at 135 Elmarit goggled and not goggled (current fav) and the 135 Elmar. Â What/where should i look at? Personal recommendations? Prices? They seem to be ALL over the place!!! Â Thanks
Advertisement Posted September 17, 2011 Posted September 17, 2011 Hi Ronan, Take a look here Leica M Telephoto, choices?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted September 17, 2011 Share #2 Â Posted September 17, 2011 Non-goggled Elmarit is for R, not M. I would, reading your post, advise an Elmarit and expect to pay between 250 and 500 Euro for it depending on version and condition..

Anything particular to watch out when purchasing that lens? I see a lot with slight haze (anyone expand on that? Is it Fungus!?).
wda Posted September 17, 2011 Share #4  Posted September 17, 2011 Ronan, given your criteria, I would recommend a clean 135mm Elmar which can be found for under £200. (I suggest you avoid the Hector, unless desperate and find a clean specimen). It lacks the clinical bite of the current Apo lens which costs well over £2,000 but is a very capable performer with a classical rendering. Excellent for portraits. With careful PP it can be made to look much sharper than expected. Anything more than the Elmar costs serious money although you might be lucky with a Tele-Elmar at around the £400 mark.

Buy alast version one, it is better optically
bill Posted September 17, 2011 Share #6 Â Posted September 17, 2011 Canon 135mm 3.5 late model (black) in LTM. Handles very well, cheap to buy and a great performer. Â Regards, Â Bill
Ronan Posted September 17, 2011 Author Share #7 Â Posted September 17, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks guys! Â I think i'll go with the 135 Elmarit 2.8. swamiji Posted September 20, 2011 Share #8 Â Posted September 20, 2011 Another advantage of the 135mm Elmarit (goggles), is the lens head unscrews and with the proper adapter can be placed on a Visoflex or bellows (with the correct adapters). it goes from f2.8 to f32 so it can be quite useful for both normal and macro work. Guest Randle P. McMurphy Posted September 20, 2011 Share #9  Posted September 20, 2011 What/where should i look at? Personal recommendations? Prices?  Tele-Elmar 4,0/135mm  LEICA Lenses  http://www.google.de/url?q=http://en.leica-camera.com/assets/file/download.php%3Ffilename%3Dfile_1758.pdf&sa=U&ei=lzl4TsPHNPKM4gS4_4D0Cw&ved=0CA8QFjAA&usg=AFQjCNH--J3fKppNoFAaT8eFAfW8q6v66A  I got mine at Ebay for just less than 80.- € because this Dude forgot to picture it and made some mistakes at the description so that everyone think it was the much older lens build in the 60th.  This lens is sharp - sharp - sharp and wonderful to handle. Perfect for snapshots and portraits with less DoF (nice Bokeh - too).
luigi bertolotti Posted September 20, 2011 Share #10 Â Posted September 20, 2011 I think that given you describe your M6 as a "classic", it has the 28mm frame... so 135 is really a tiny frame for a glass wearer : a good reason to prefer the goggled Elmarit (even if, personally, I like more the Tele Elmar f4). I wish i could try it before, but i don't know anyone that has it here  Because it´s to BIG to make SENSE - so nobody will screw this MONSTER on his little M body. Think about 700g weight so you need a own Sherpa to move it (my old Nikkor H 4,5/300 Auto just weight 1000g).  LEICA Lenses

Ronan Posted September 20, 2011 Author Share #18 Â Posted September 20, 2011 Interesting that my last post got deleted... Â Anyways, I'm also looking at 90mm's. Anyone recommend anything in particular? I'm still thinking economically since I would not use it often. Â Thanks
luigi bertolotti Posted September 20, 2011 Share #19 Â Posted September 20, 2011 90s are so many.... ... I'd say Elmarit "old" for price/performance, Elmarit-M "the last" for absolute quality, Elmar collapsible "old" for compactness; no Summicron (even if aren't costly) if won't use often : difficult to learn how focusing RIGHT at f 2... And... avoid Thambar if you don't like to spend a lot for an oddity...
